Kilmore made their way up the Cleaning Melbourne 17&U ladder after a convincing 12-goal win over Ivanhoe last Friday night at La Trobe Sports Stadium Court 4.
Both sides were running close throughout the first half, up until the third and last quarter where Kilmore ran over the top of Ivanhoe to claim the win 29 goals to 17.
By the end of the night Kilmore finished in second spot on the Cleaning Melbourne Division 17&U ladder.
Ivanhoe on the other hand now sit in third place just below them, tied on paper, separated solely by percentage.
Ivanhoe’s leading goal scorer, Claire Wright scored 13 goals this game. Grace Wright, Samara Tzirkas, Rose Cantwell all played exceptionally well for Ivanhoe, with their defence particularly strong.
Kilmore’s top two leading goal scorers Milla Lisle and Ivy Dawson scored a total of 29 goals together. Ivy scored 16, boosting her season tally to 74, while Milla scored 13 to increase her tally to 99.
Taylor Love, Sienna Evans, and Lexie Mapperson, played well for Kilmore, staying consistent through-out the game, keeping their eyes on the ball and aiming to move the ball smoothly up the court for their team.
Ivanhoe started the game off strong, being the first team to score a goal, however Kilmore responded quickly, which resulted in both sides scoring a total of seven successive goals.
With only one goal separating the two sides at the first break the second quarter was very competitive. Ivanhoe scored the first goal again before Kilmore reacted quickly and scored a goal.
Ivanhoe fired back with three back-to-back goals and finished off the quarter by scoring in the last 10 seconds, staying with one goal of the Blues after the second term.
Kilmore made a threatening start to the third quarter with five consecutive goals within the first couple minutes of the quarter. This then led to another fierce battle of six continuous goals between both the teams.
Ivanhoe had many chances to score in the final quarter of the game, however they struggled to convert the goals. Their defence played really well to put pressure against Kilmore and prevent them from moving the ball up to their court.
Kilmore moved in coordinated groups to maintain the momentum and ball movement towards their court, which allowed them to score three continuous goals in the last few minutes of the game.
Ivanhoe finished the game off scoring a final goal in the final 30 seconds of the last quarter.
The scores continued to stay in Kilmore’s favour though, with the game finishing up on 29 goals for the Blues to Ivanhoe’s 17.
