Caddy earns Rising Star nomination

Caddy is the second player from the Northern Football League to receive the honour, after Hurstbridge turned Richmond defender Dylan Grimes earned a nomination in Round 3.

The midfielder had 15 disposals and kicked a goal in Gold Coast’s shock two-point win over Richmond at Cazaly’s Stadium.

The performance followed a superb effort against Geelong a week earlier where Caddy earned 18 possessions and kicked three goals against the reigning premier.

After debuting in Round 23 last season, Caddy has now played 17 games and booted 12 goals.

In 15 games this season he has averaged 16 disposals, three marks and two tackles.

Selected with pick seven in the 2010 national draft, Caddy is yet to miss a since game since his debut and has attracted great interest from opposition clubs, most notably Essendon, who have tried to lure him back to Victoria.

He captained Northern Knights in the TAC Cup in 2010 and represented Vic Metro in the under-18 carnival where he earned selection in the All-Australian team.

Suns coach Guy McKenna told AFL.com.au that Caddy’s nomination topped a positive weekend for the club.

“Josh well and truly deserves his nomination and it is fantastic that he has been recognised,” McKenna said.

“After such a difficult year in 2011, Josh has been outstanding this season.

“He has displayed maturity and leadership that you don’t often see from players in their first or second season of football and has been fulfilling roles on the field well beyond his experience suggests he should be capable of.”

Caddy’s older brother, Saul, was the Division 1 competition leading goal kicker in 2010 and will play his first game of the season for Heidelberg this week.
