The Macleod Football Netball Club has appointed two-time premiership player Nick Lynch as the club’s senior men’s coach for the next two years.

Following the announcement of Craig Hayes’ departure earlier this month, the club has today confirmed the appointment of Lynch for at least the next two seasons.

After playing juniors at the club, Lynch began his senior career at Macleod in 2006, where he finished the season as the Division 2 leading goalkicker with 102 majors.

He was a member of Macleod’s 2009 Division 2 premiership and 2015 Division 1 premiership teams and played his last senior game for the Roos in 2019.

Lynch became Craig Hayes’ assistant coach from the 2022 campaign onwards and will take over the role as senior men’s coach at the conclusion of the season.

Macleod currently sit in tenth position on the Melbourne Greyhounds ladder with a 2-12 record.

A club statement said:

Former premiership player Nick Lynch has been appointed Macleod Football Club senior coach for the next two seasons.

Nick played most of his junior football at Macleod, including Colts premierships in 2002-03, and has also played at VFL level for Coburg and in the Coates Talent League for the Northern Knights.

He played key roles in Macleod’s 2009 (Division 2) and 2015 (Division 1) senior premierships and was a noted goalkicker, once booting 100 goals in a season.

“We are delighted to welcome Nick back to the club where he has had great success as a premiership player,” Macleod FC president Ean Newbold said.

“Nick has a deep connection with both the Macleod Senior and Junior football clubs, and we look forward to him developing our existing and future group of young players moving forward.”
