Creekers celebrate Indigenous Round

Published on Tuesday, May 28, 2013

Marngrook Footy Show reporter Shelley Ware was a special guest at Diamond Creek on Sunday when the Creekers hosted South Morang in the under-11s.

Diamond Creek embraced the AFL’s Indigenous Round by flying the aboriginal flag at Coventry Oval and presenting a special medal for the day.

The playing group was also addressed before and after the game of the enormous contribution by indigenous Australians to our great game.

Pre-game, Shelley spoke in the middle of the ground flanked by the two teams in an Acknowledgement to Country speech, followed by a pause for silence before the coin toss.

The match that followed was a gripping one, played in the right spirit. South Morang ended up prevailing by the closest of margins, one point.
