Harvey recommits to Eagles

Blair Harvey will continue as coach of Whittlesea’s senior men’s football team in 2021.

The Eagles confirmed the reappointment of the 2019 Division 2 premiership coach on Monday.

After one of the most decorated playing careers in NFNL history, Harvey made a seamless transition into coaching last year.

A six-time premiership player for Heidelberg and North Heidelberg, Harvey led Whittlesea to grand final success against Banyule in his first season as coach.

His efforts were recognised with selection as coach of the 2019 Division 2 Team of the Year. He was also a finalist in the AFL Victoria Northern Region Coach of the Year.

A statement released on Whittlesea’s Facebook page confirmed the reappointment.

“Stinga’s (Harvey’s) vision for the club when he first arrived was bold and ambitious. Yet it’s already starting to come to fruition as we now look to make an impact in Division 1,” the statement read.

“He’s been busy re-signing all our players, especially the young stars.

“We look forward to what Stinga has in store for the side in 2021.”

Whittlesea will now be looking to cement its place in Division 1, having won four Division 2 premierships since 2010.

The club’s last stint in the top-flight, which lasted three seasons from 2016 to 2018, was its longest stay since joining the NFNL in 1992.
