Honouring the ANZACS

Published on Wednesday, April 26, 2017

Diamond Creek Football Club hosted an ANZAC commemoration between its under-9 and under-10 matches on Sunday.

The Creekers’ under-9 sides played Northcote and the under-10s played Research and all players participated in a guard of honour for the service.

A member of the Diamond Creek RSL recited the Ode before the Last Post was played. The ceremony was completed with a wonderful rendition of the national anthem.

Anzac medals were minted to award to a member of the each team, who showed the Anzac spirit of courage and/or mateship during the game.

Two army trucks were provided as part of the service to give the young players and spectators a better sense of the importance of ANZAC Day.

The games and commemoration received a fantastic attendance, with all three clubs standing to attention during the service and showing the utmost respect and gratitude to our service men and women.
