A look back over last weekend’s Grand Final action in the Under-16 to Under-18 junior competitions.
The Under 18 Girls got the junior grand finals underway at Garvey Oval. Research and Yarrambat fought off in what was a thrilling affair. Tied up in the first quarter, the Bats took the momentum coming into the second half. The Bats kicked four goals in the second half to seal their 20-point win, Emily Johnson and Emma Hendrie led the Bats with Lilly Tebbatt and Ebony Smith both kicking two goals.
Yarrambat and Diamond Creek met at Greenhill Reserve for the Under 17.5 Boys decider. The Bats managed to maintain their lead as the Creekers trailed behind only by 10 points at each quarter break. Yarrambat’s momentum led them to secure a 12-point win, with Archer Harvey leading the Bats with four goals while Matteo Demarte kicked three goals for the Creekers.
The Under 16 Girls (1) had its decider at Redleap Reserve, which was contested between Eltham and Yarrambat. The Bats had an outstanding game, kicking 10 goals to the Panthers one. Matilda Johnson and Ashley Denny gave their best for the Panthers. Deena Gerges and Addison Fitzpatrick led the Bats with Gerges and Madelyn Thomas kicking two goals each which led them to their 69-point win, collecting another finals flag for Bats.
South Morang and Montmorency had a nail-biting Grand Final for the Under 16 Girls (2) at Eltham Central Park. The Lions managed to keep in front with only a one-point lead at three quarter time, but the Panthers were able to kick another goal in the fourth to seal a five-point win in the end. Cammryn Warke and Lexi Dean gave their best for the Lions.
Eltham and Yarrambat met in the Under 16 Boys (1) decider at Waterview Reserve. The Panthers were able to keep the Bats scoreless in the first half while kicking 12 goals for the game, with scores settling on 12.15 (87) to 4.3 (27) in favour of the Panthers. Will Masalski and Noah Watts gave their best from the Bats while Albi Williams and Jeremy Potter led the Panthers to their 60-point victory.
The Under 16 Boys (2) Grand Final saw Hurstbridge and Mernda face off at Yarrambat War Memorial Park. The Demons dominated with 38 scoring shots which resulted in an 88-point triumph. Michael Warwick and Jett Philips led the Demons with Benjamin Ridding kicking an impressive six goals. Despite the loss Thomas Cilauro and Elliot Murphy gave their best for the Bridges with Cilauro kicking three goals.
