A look back over last weekend’s action in the Under-16 to Under-18 junior competitions.
The Under 18 Girls started off the weekend with Mernda facing Research. The Searchers didn’t hold back, kicking a staggering 17 goals to maintain their top spot on the ladder. Katelyn Busuttil and Sierra Filippone led the Searchers, both kicking three goals each while Alli Allen kicked four for the side. Charli King and Catherine Wilson put in their best efforts for the Demons, but in the end Research took away a 123-point win, 0.0 (0) to 17.21 (123).
Eltham clashed with Diamond Creek Womens, with the Creekers taking away a four-point win in a nailbiter. The Creekers were able to maintain their small lead which eventually led to their victory 3.5 (23) to 3.9 (27), Abbi Gardiner and Kiara Keenan were named on the sides best while Tiah Bishop and Charlotte Laszczuk were standouts from the Panthers.
Yarrambat and Diamond Creek kickstarted the Under 17.5 Boys in a nailbiter at Yarrambat War Memorial Park. Both teams were previously undefeated as they fought for the top spot, in the end it was the Bats who took away a four point win, 9.11 (65) to 10.9 (69). Noah Carmody and Jagger Owen were named in the Creekers best while Archer Harvey, Isaac Jones and lachlan Sobol kicked two goals each for the Bats.
Eltham Black faced Wallan at Greenhill Reserve which ended in a thrilling draw, 7.14 (56) to 8.8 (56). A back-and-forth affair had the Panthers in the lead coming into the last term, but multiple scoring shots from the Magpies led to a draw. Jake Laws and Alastair Clarke led the Magpies while Campbell Harrison kicked five goals for the side. Oliver Gale and Will Lewis were standouts from the Panthers with Charlie Illingworth kicking three goals.
Mernda and Laurimar faced off at Waterview Reserve. The Power were able to sustain a strong lead throughout the game leading to their 24-point win, 4.9 (33) to 8.9 (57). Lucas McDonald and Kade Weston led the Power while Jack Schembri and Justin Spadorcia were named in the Demon’s best.
Whittlesea battled Montmorency at Whittlesea Oval. The Eagles held their lead for majority of the contest, taking away a 13-point win but to the Magpies credit they were able to secure 2 goals in the last term in efforts to come back. Dylan Keating and Bailey Smith gave their best from the Magpies while Isaac Daniel and Jack Wunderlich showed up for the Eagles.
The Under 16 Girls (1) saw Diamond Creek Womens and Eltham Black clash at Eltham Central Park. The Demons were able to sustain their lead throughout the game which led them to go home with a close 5-point win. Paige Brand and Eden Crupi led the Panthers while Jessica-Hazelwood Smith and Lily Irvin were the Creekers goalkickers.
Yarrambat managed to stay undefeated with their clash against Kilmore, the Bats winning 1.2 (8) to 8.11 (59). Sophia Hrysoulakis and Deena Gerges led the Bats, Gerges kicked four goals for the game. Hannah Gibson and Tahnee Davis showed their best efforts from the Blues.
Mernda had a rest week as Research forfeited.
Under 16 Girls (2) kicked off with Whittlesea and South Morang. The Eagles came away with a 22-point win with Kiah McKinnon-Rowe and Alannah Purcell and multiple goal kickers. Cammryn Warke and Faith Raskatos gave it their best from the Lions.
Wallan faced Laurimar as the Magpies looked for their first win of the season, but in the end it was the Power who took away a 33-point win, 1.5 (11) to 5.14 (44). Emily Gomez and Tullulah Clark were standouts from the Power, Gomez and Mikayla Ellis both kicked two goals each. Summer McPharlane and Ruby-rose Jones gave their best from the Magpies.
Montmorency triumphed over Darebin Womens with a 25-point win. The pair faced off at Lower Plenty Oval, Madison Morgan and Mia Maxey were standouts from the Magpies while Ruby Schurmann and Millie Maher gave it their all from the Falcons.
Coming into the Under 16 Boys (1), Whittlesea faced Kilmore at the Whittlesea Showgrounds. The Eagles managed to hit the front in the second quarter after kicking five goals. Jaxson Meyer and Noah Anderson led the Eagles with Orlando Anderson-Wells kicking three goals. The Blues had multiple goal kickers with Jack Haber and Toby McCarthy being named in their side’s best.
Diamond Creek battled Yarrambat at Coventry Oval with the Bats taking away a 70-point win. Ryder Barrett and Thomas Webb were standouts from the Bats with Toby Jeffs and Ethan Thornton Williams both kicking four goals each. Jonty Logan and Jordan Giamarelos fought hard for the Creekers as well as their multiple goal kickers.
Eltham triumphed over Greensborough by 93 points at War Memorial Park. The Panthers kept in front the whole game, kicking six goals in the fourth quarter to get them into the hundreds. Xander Rosales and Joel Denny were named in the Panthers best as well as the side having multiple goal kickers. William Brookes and Billy Poursanidis fought hard for the Borough.
Laurimar continued their undefeated season against South Morang. The Power came away with a 72-point win kicking a total of 16 goals for the game. Zack Nardozza and Alex Parisi were named in the Lions best with Kairan Lovett-Morgan kicking four goals. Fletcher Carrick and Nayte Thomas led the Power with Will Broadbent kicking five goals for the side.
Research maintained their spot in the top three after facing Laurimar in the Under 16 Boys (2). The Searchers sustained a comfortable lead to take away their 55-point win, 3.8 (26) to 12.9 (81). Lincoln Johnston and Oscar Hellier led the Searchers while James Kelly kicked three goals. Harvey Roper-Gleeson and Mitchell Minihan gave their best efforts for the Power.
Wallan triumphed over Kilmore with a 113-point win at Greenhill Reserve. The Magpies kept their lead in all four quarters with Darby Bishop and Ed Stephenson being named in the Magpies best, Bishop kicked four goals for the side. Austin Laurie and Joel Chadwick put in their best efforts for the Blues.
Kinglake faced top of the ladder Mernda as the Demons continued their undefeated season with a staggering 229-point win. Jett Philips and Lachlan Barker were the Demons best, with Bayden Felle kicking five goals for the side. Lochaden Graham and Vasco Strong gave it their best from the Lakers, Graham kicking two goals for the side.
Montmorency made their way into the top five after defeating West-Preston Lakeside at JE Moore Park Oval. The Magpies kept in front all game, tallying a total of 17 goals for the day leading to their 98-point win. Lachlan Ross and Zac Webster were named in the Magpies best with Thomas Nailer kicking four goals. Dean DeMaria and Hayden Finerty gave it their all for the Roosters.
