A look back over last weekend’s action in the Under-16 to Under-18 junior competitions.
There were two matches for the Under 18 Girls, beginning at Research Park as the home side Research played Eltham. The Searchers continued their undefeated season, winning each quarter and managing to keep Eltham scoreless until half time, eventually prevailing by 101-points. Sierra Filippone and captain Matilda Raphael starred in the best for the home side, Filippone led goalkickers with four for the game, while Eltham were led by Ruby Bishop and Charlotte Laszczuk.
Yarrambat took on Mernda at their home at Yarrambat War Memorial Park. The Bats were able to stay in front the whole game with Madeleine Ball and Rylee Mountney both kicking three goals, while Ebony Smith and Chloe Wyatt led the Bats in the best. Chalri King and Sienna McCarthy held their best for the Demons but the Bats were able to take away the win by 107-points.
Under 17.5 Boys began at Laurimar Reserve as Laurimar faced Whittlesea. A tight game as the score was constantly being pulled back and forth with a draw coming into the last quarter, but it was the Power who took home the 11-point win. Efforts from James Gomez secured two goals alongside Jye Brincat with his fourth game in the best, Laurimar were led by four different goal kickers with Jack Wunderlich in their best.
South Morang Blue played Mernda at Mill Park Lakes Recreation Reserve, the home side producing a 29-point win. The Demons led the first quarter by only 2-points, but the Lions kicked another 5 goals in the second quarter, starting their lead for the rest of the game. Second leading goalkicker in the competition, Adam Huybers kicked five goals for South Morang while Jesse Fernando was named in the best. From the Demons Cooper Carter was named in the best and kicked three goals for the game.
There was a nail-biting game between Diamond Creek and Eltham Black, with the Creekers stealing a six-point win, continuing their unbeaten winning streak. The Panthers led the first quarter by six points, but the Creekers continued the game with only a small lead. Leading the Creekers was Hamish Day and Noah Carmody, while Will Lewis and Oliver Gale were in the forefront for the Panthers.
Yarrambat managed to stay on top of the ladder after their clash with Wallan. The Bats led the whole game with leading goalkicker in the competition Archer Harvey kicking six goals for the game. The Magpies best efforts were led by Mark Sibillin and Beau McAulieffe, but the Bats came away with a 60-point win.
A competitive clash between Kilmore and Diamond Creek Womens got the Under 16 Girls (1) underway. The Blues started off with a strong lead coming into the second quarter, but the Creekers pushed back making things even at half time. The Blues were able to kick another three goals during the third quarter as they held their lead for a nine point win. The Creekers shared three different goalkickers while vice Captain Chiara Amoroso kicked two goals for the Blues, with Tahnee Davis and Amarni Bentley coming in the best also for the Blues.
Eltham Black welcomed Research to Eltham Central Park for their round five clash. The Panthers started off the game strong and only grew their lead throughout the game, generating a 60-point win. A field day for Ruby Hartney kicking seven goals for the Panthers while also being in their best alongside Ashley Denny also kicking one goal. Efforts from Eden Pilakis and Amelia Sala didn’t go unnoticed by the Searchers.
Yarrambat, looking to stay on top of the ladder, played Mernda at Waterview Reserve. The Bats continued to be unbeaten this season, taking home a 76-point victory. Amelia Drake and Georgia Graham from the Bats both kicked three goals for the day while Alex Nuttman-Brown managed to kick Merndas only goal. Grace Robinson and Deena Gerges were named leading the Bats to victory.
Wallan took the trip to Laurimar Reserve to face off Laurimar in the Under 16 Girls (2). Both teams looking for their first win, it was Laurimar who took home the 29-point victory. Caitlin Poulton kicked two goals for Laurimar while Inara Verma and Andie Reed were named in their sides best. Ariana Lauletta kicked a goal for the Magpies while also being named in the best alongside Taleea Brown.
Top of the ladder South Morang played away at A.H. Capp Reserve against Darebin Womens. The Falcons took the lead in a tight first quarter, but after kicking four goals in the second quarter the Lions only continued to put more on the board, coming away with a 33-point win. Cammryn Warke kicked three goals as well as being named in the best alongside Natasha Penn for the Lions. Zara Quinn produced two goals while being named in the best with Miller Maher.
Whittlesea defeated Wallan by 12-points at AF Walker Recreation Reserve. The Eagles fighting for the win to stay in the top two, while Wallan were looking for their first win. Alannah Purcell kicked both of the Eagles goals while being named in her teams best on beside Kiah McKinnon. Mia Maxey and Sky Morgan showed their best efforts from the Magpies.
Eltham Black faced off Diamond Creek at Coventry Oval in the Under 16 Boys (1). The Panthers came away with a 55-point win after keeping a solid lead throughout the game. Nate Tsobanopoulos kicked three goals while being named in the best with Jack Robinson for the Panthers. The Blues showed efforts from Xavier Eastham, Jyi Wallington while having three different goal kickers.
A home game for Whittlesea at Whittlesea Show Grounds as they faced off Greensborough. Phoenix Ray kicking four and Lachlan McCumber kicking three goals led Whittlesea to their 63-point victory. Matthew Galgano, Izrael Bethune showed their best efforts from the Boro.
Kilmore faced off against South Morang at JJ Clancy Reserve, leading to Kilmore finishing in the top three on the ladder with a 35-point win. The Blues led the game deterring South Morang to get a goal until the third term. Max Lehner secured 3 goals while Lewis King secured 2, both obtaining a spot in the best for the Blues. South Morang produced four goalkickers with Joseph Imperatrice, Alex Parisi, both kicking a goal each and named in the Lions best.
A crucial game for the top two on the ladder, Yarrambat and Laurimar Black as they met at Yarrambat War Memorial Park. A high stake game as The Power led the game, with the Bats unable to get their first goal until the second quarter. Both teams fought hard for the top spot, but it was Laurimar who came out on top for a 22-point win. Hayden Jones, Zayne Broderick were named in the best for The Power while Jayden Fenech, Thomas Webb were named for the Bats.
West-Preston and Wallan kickstarted the Under 16 Boys (2) at J.E. Moore Park. The Magpies sustained a substantial lead throughout the game to take away a 65-point win, with Brodie Hall and Dustin Higgins creating three goals each for the side, while Lachlan Hirt and Logan Pappas were recognised for their efforts from the Roosters.
A home game for Research at Research Park against Montmerecny. The Searches took home the 63-point win after staying in front all day. An incredible match from Hugh Hegarty kicking a staggering eight goals making him the leading goalkicker in the competition, while also being named in the sides best with Lincoln Johnston. From the Magpies Thomas Nailer, Lachlan Ross gave it their all.
After coming down from division one, Mernda faced off against Hurstbridge at Ben Frilay Oval. In a close first quarter with only eight points separating Mernda’s lead, the Demons continued to kick goal after goal creating a bigger gap. Blade Fitzgerald and Jett Philipps both kicking four goals each and made it in the Demon’s best. While the Bridges were led by Max Avard and Mitchell Hayes.
Kilmore White met Kinglake at Kinglake Memorial Oval where Kimore had a 101-point victory. The Blues were able to stay on the forward front all day with Hayden Ward generating four goals alongside Beau Kemp in the Blues best. From the Lakers Luca Potter-smith, Leroy Croft and Lachlan Henwood were recognised for their efforts.
