Junior Review – Round 8

A review of the Round 8 junior action.

The Under 18 Girls competition saw South Morang continue on its winning way, beating Darebin Falcons by 39 points in the top of the table clash The Lions are still unbeaten after eight rounds. Diamond Creek Womens recorded a big win over Hurstbridge at Plenty Park to keep third place on the ladder. Meanwhile, Montmorency also recorded a big win over Eltham to move into fifth spot on the table.

In the Under 17 Blue competition, South Morang upset ladder-leader Montmorency in a tight affair by eight points. Despite trailing by seven points at the final break, the Lions were able to pull off a stirring comeback to knock over the Magpies in a great display. Diamond Creek pulled of a gripping win over West Preston, getting over the line by five points away from home. The Creekers best were Tyler Barnes and Charlie Dunbar, who kicked five goals. The other match saw Research move into second spot after it defeated Epping comprehensively.

Eltham and Hurstbridge played off in the top of the table clash in the Under 17 Red competition, with Eltham coming out victorious by 34 points. Diamond Creek was able to beat Northcote by 43 points, which sees it cement fourth spot as the Queen’s Birthday weekend. The competition’s other winner was Whittlesea who eased by bottom-placed Wallan at the Whittlesea Showgrounds.

The Under 16 Blue competition saw South Morang continue its unbeaten run, kicking 15 goals to three against Epping at Mill Park Lakes Reserve. The win sees the Lions remain at the top whilst the Pingers sit in the lower reaches of the table. Mill Park survived a scare from Eltham, beating them by seven points in a match which was close for the entire day. The win sees the Stallions remain one step behind South Morang, whilst the Panthers remain breathing down the necks of the Stallions. Montmorency also recorded a win as they beat Research at Research Park.

South Morang has kept its winning run alive as it remains atop the Under 15 Blue ladder, after beating Wallan in not too pleasant conditions at Wallan Recreational Reserve. The Lions were led by Christian Pisano and Ahmad Ahmad, who bagged three goals for the day. Epping continued its winning run, with a big win over Greensborough at Beale Oval. The Pingers best were Kyle McGaw and Jake Perry, whilst the Boro’s best in defeat were Lachlan Jepsen and Jack Gillespie. The round’s other winner was West Preston, who also recorded a big win over Research by 55 points which sees the Roosters cement their place in the top three.

The Under 15 Red competition saw Yarrambat and Montmorency play out a fantastic battle, with the Bats getting over the line by four points. In a see-sawing affair, it was the Bats that were able to get their noses in front at the right time to record a memorable win which sees them move into equal second on the ladder. Eltham beat Mill Park by 28 points in another fine display which sees the Panthers sit atop the ladder.

In the Under 15 Green competition, Whittlesea moved into first on the table after they beat Kinglake away from home. The Eagles were led by Jeremy Little and Rhys Opdecoul. Keon Park edged closer to the top two, defeating Epping by 13 points to move within two points of second placed Bundoora Park. The Thunderbolts had the bye in Round 8 and are on equal points with Whittlesea.

South Morang remained unbeaten in the Under 14 Blue competition, beating Laurimar Black by 34 points in a game which sees the Lions remain well clear of the rest of the competition. West Preston upset Eltham in a 24-point result at Eltham Central Park. The Roosters were led by Jaylon Williamson and Beau Hands. The weekend’s other winner was Montmorency who proved too good for Epping.

In the Under 13 Blue competition, South Morang Blue remains atop the ladder after it beat Whittlesea by 45 points at Whittlesea Showgrounds. It was battle between the undefeated teams and it was the Lions who prevailed. They now sit clear atop the ladder and sent out a strong message to the rest of the competition. Greensborough and Epping also recorded good wins over Mill Park and Montmorency.

The Under 12 Blue competition sees Eltham and Research sit atop the table, both recording solid wins over Diamond Creek and Wallan. South Morang Blue just got over the line against Mill Park, coming from behind to beat the Stallions on their home turf by two points.

Yarrambat kept rolling along in the Under 11 Blue competition, beating Epping by 41 points to keep its massive unbeaten start to the season alive. South Morang Blue and Eltham also recorded wins over Greensborough and Montmorency respectively.
