The Northern Football League’s media team has been nominated for four awards in the 2014 AFL Victoria Community Football Media Awards.

The league’s nominations range across three categories, which include Best Use of Online Media, Best Radio Match Day Coverage and Best Football Column (Football Record).

NFL media manager Samuel Zito congratulated the league’s media team on the number of nominations it received.

“The quality of work produced by each of our media contributors continues to impress,” he said.

“It is their enthusiasm and commitment which ensures the Northern Football League receives the coverage and promotion it deserves, both in our community and also outside our region.”

The league’s weekly video highlights package, the NFL Top 5 Plays of the Week, was shortlisted in the Best Use of Online Media category.

Produced in conjunction with Red Onion Creative, the highlights package showed the best plays from the NFL’s three senior competitions each week of the football season and received a huge following from the NFL community.

Samuel Zito and scribe Michael Thompson were both nominated for the Best Football Column award for their coverage of the Division 1 and Division 2 competitions respectively.

The weekly divisional columns were published on both the NFL website and in the league’s football record, The Northerner and previewed the upcoming action in both competitions each weekend.

The NFL match-day radio broadcast, the NFL Match of the Day, was one of seven nominees shortlisted for Best Radio Match Day Coverage.

Hosted by Tom Flanagan, Jordan Kounelis and Samuel Zito, the broadcast airs on 88.6 Plenty Valley FM each Saturday. The team calls the best NFL match each week, with a one-hour preview show and half-hour review show also included in the coverage.
