The NFNL has released a statement regarding the adverse weather conditions during Saturday’s senior men’s matches.
Last Saturday provided weather conditions that have not been seen for many years. This adverse weather created many interruptions to senior matches in all divisions and in some cases, games were abandoned.
The NFNL Board, in accordance with the NFNL By-Laws, has been working through the results of all abandoned games for each senior division. After a lengthy and detailed process, the NFNL Board has made the following determination.
Melbourne Greyhounds Division 1
The NFNL Board has determined that the two senior games, North Heidelberg v Montmorency and Heidelberg v Macleod that were abandoned due to adverse weather, were abandoned in accordance with the NFNL By-Laws and both grounds were unsuitable to continue the match.
Therefore, due to these two games being abandoned, the NFNL Board has applied NFNL By-Law 11.14 (VI)
In addition to the above By-Law, the NFNL Board has determined the following.
• Due to all matches commencing, the games tally for all players will count towards their season and career games played.
• All player reports and send offs shall apply for the offended player.
These items are silent in the NFNL By-Laws and therefore the Board has used its powers to apply the above determination.
MC Labour Division 2
The NFNL Board has determined that they are not convinced that two senior games, Lower Plenty v Panton Hill and Diamond Creek v Fitzroy Stars should have been abandoned.
The NFNL Board has determined that the process implemented to abandon these matches were in breach of By-Law 11.15 (II)
At no stage was the NFNL consulted prior to abandoning these matches and the NFNL Board considers that if this By-Law were applied correctly, both matches would have been completed, albeit shortened quarters, prior to 5pm.
Both matches were called off in the second half of the match, and therefore all scores at the conclusion of the match shall stand. As such, Lower Plenty and Diamond Creek will be awarded the four premiership points. All other results from this division shall also remain as of the conclusion of their match.
Heidelberg Golf Club Division 3
The Kilmore v Reservoir game which was called off in the second half of the match, will be awarded to Kilmore.
The scores at the time of the conclusion of the match shall stand, and Kilmore will receive the four premiership points.
