The Northern Football Netball League can confirm that the Broadford Football Netball Club and the Oak Park Flyers Netball Club have been accepted to join the league’s netball competition ahead of the 2024 winter seasons.
The two clubs were voted into the league by the NFNL Board of Directors at a meeting yesterday evening.
The Broadford Football Netball Club has been representing the Broadford community in both football and netball for over 130 years. Since 2020 the club had been affiliated with AFL Outer East.
In 2023, Broadford fielded three Open and one 17&U netball team in the AFL Outer East competition. All four teams made finals, with the B grade team securing the premiership. They endeavour to have three teams in the 2024 winter competition.
The NFNL advise that Broadford will not field any football teams in the NFNL competition in 2024.
The Oak Park Flyers Netball Club, as a subsidiary of the Oak Park Community Sports Association (OPCSA), currently provide an opportunity for women in Oak Park and surrounding areas to play netball. The club most recently participated in the Essendon District Football League (EDFL) during the winter competition.
The Flyers intend to field one senior netball team in 2024, with plans to expand to junior netball and NetSetGO to create a netball pathway for members within the community.
NFNL chief executive officer Martin Stillman is thrilled to see two clubs aid the league’s goal in expanding the NFNL netball competition.
“Our NFNL netball program is growing in popularity, and it is evident with two new clubs joining the league, that the standard of netball and professionalism within our netball competitions make the NFNL an extremely attractive proposition for clubs,” he said.
“I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Oak Park Flyers and Broadford well, as we welcome them into our Northern community.”
