Northcote Park has confirmed the appointment of Anthony Palmer as senior men’s coach for the 2024 season.

The Cougars announced the signing on Tuesday, with Palmer joining the club following a successful stint as an assistant coach with Melbourne Greyhounds Division 1 back-to-back premiers, Heidelberg.

He has also been a senior coach at multiple VAFA clubs such as Brunswick, Bulleen Templestowe and Therry Penola.

He takes over the role from Stephen Saddington who spent three years at the helm.

In 2023, Northcote Park finished the MC Labour Division 2 season in seventh position with an 8-10 record.

A club statement said:

On behalf of the Board, we are incredibly pleased to be announcing Anthony Palmer as our Senior Coach.

This has been a period of significant change for our Club, but with that comes a great sense of excitement and opportunity. We have no doubt that Anthony is the right man to lead us into the future.

Anthony brings an enormous breadth of experience to the Club, having played key roles during highly successful periods at various football clubs.

He has a deep understanding of the game and what drives on-field success from a strategic and cultural perspective.

Anthony has great energy and is highly competitive, and during the appointment process, it became increasingly obvious that he was a great fit for our Club.

He was the ideal candidate, and we have no doubt our playing group will thrive under his coaching.

We welcome the Palmer family to the Cougars family, wife Leana, son Charlie. Girls Ginger & Frankie.
