Kane Shaw will become only the second Macleod player to reach 200 A-Grade games when he leads his side into battle against Eltham on Saturday.
Arguably the greatest Macleod player of the modern era, Shaw has been an ornament to his football club and follows in Tom Melican’s legendary footsteps as the only Roo to reach such a figure.
Debuting in 2002 as a 17-year-old, Shaw’s accolades are the envy of most footballers.
He was named senior captain in 2005 at just 20 years of age and led his side to Division 2 premiership glory in 2009, where he was deservingly awarded best afield honours.
Shaw has claimed three club best and fairest awards (2005, 2008 and 2011), and has also finished second (2004) and third (2009 and 2012) for the award.
He has been named best Macleod’s best finals player on four occasions and has been a member of the NFL Team of the Year on three occasions, most recently in 2011 when he was also adjudged the Division 1 Coaches Player of the Year.
His impact on the Macleod Football Club was further acknowledged when he was named centre half-forward and captain of its Team of the Decade (2000-2009).
Fittingly, Shaw reaches the 200-game milestone with his side on the brink of playing Division 1 finals for the first time since 1972 – when it played as Macleod-Rosanna.
The Roos currently sit in seventh place on the Division 1 ladder, just one win behind fifth-placed West Preston-Lakeside.
They host Eltham at De Winton Park this Saturday – a team they have beaten by less than a kick in their past four meetings at the ground – before finishing the year with matches against Lower Plenty and Greensborough.
