Vic teams named for Youth Girls nationals

The team, consisting of 27 players, will contest the 2013 AFL National Championships in Shepparton from May 5-10.

Selected in the Vic Metro team were Monique Tracey from Diamond Creek and former Mernda junior Deanna Berry.

Darebin’s Rechelle McSwain and South Morang’s Courtney Musico were selected amongst three emergencies for the side.

Shepparton’s premier ground, Deakin Reserve will play host to the annual national competition for females aged between 13 and 18 years.

Six Youth Girls state representative teams from across the country will battle for the national title between May 6 and 10.

In previous years the Victorian team has successfully competed as a combined side – winning the past three championships.

AFL Victoria female Development Manager Chyloe Kurdas said that despite competing as separate sides this year, big things are expected from both Victorian teams.

“The Vic Metro squad is relishing the challenge of having a reduced talent pool by fielding both a Vic Metro and Country team this year,” she said.

“All of the Vic Metro girls are really motivated to get the best out themselves and to help their teammates do the same.”

Kurdas said the Vic Country team was determined to take it up their metropolitan counterparts.

“The Vic Country girls are very tight-knit unit and their closeness will be one of their strengths at the championships.

“We are very excited to have our best ever representation of country Victoria at the AFL National Championships,” Kurdas said.
