Vlastuin to lead Vic Metro

Affectionately known as Tigga, Vlastuin is one of nine Northern Knights representatives to be selected in the Vic Metro squad for the Championships.

The Championships commence on Saturday with Vic Metro set take on Northern Territory in Darwin in the season opener.

Vlastuin was an integral member of Eltham JFC’s under-17 premiership in 2010 and travelled to Europe earlier this season after being awarded an AIS-AFL Academy scholarship.

Fellow Knights’ teammates Nathan Hrovat and Matthew Haynes have been named as vice-captains of the team.

Hrovat, a former Mill Park junior, is the captain of the Northern Knights in 2012, with Vlastuin named as vice captain.

Vlastuin, Hrovat and Haynes were also members of the under-16 Vic Metro team in 2010.

Vlastuin follows in the footsteps of another Northern Knights representative, Billy Longer, who captained Vic Metro last year before being drafted to the Brisbane Lions.

The nine Northern Knights players in this year’s Vic Metro squad are: Nick Vlastuin (Eltham), Nathan Hrovat (Mill Park), Matthew Haynes (Yarrambat), Ben Lennon (Macleod), Anthony Bonaddio (West Preston), Cameron Conlon (St Mary’s), Jacob Ballard (Warrandyte), Ben Irving (West Preston), Sam Gilmore (Greensborough).
