On Friday AFL Victoria gave approval for the Roosters to join the league following an objection from the Yarra Junior Football League.
West Ivanhoe Junior Football Club was unanimously voted into the Northern Football League junior competition by member clubs at a special general meeting at Watermarc Aquatic Centre two weeks ago.
NFL CEO Jeremy Bourke said he was pleased by AFL Victoria’s decision and looked forward to having West Ivanhoe part of the junior competition.
“The preparations and presentations made by West Ivanhoe through the approval process have been nothing but first class,” he said.
“The league is genuinely thrilled to have the club on board and, following on from Laurimar, Bundoora Park and Kinglake, they will be another quality addition to our league.”
West Ivanhoe has evolved from the Ivanhoe Auskick centre and club officials anticipate fielding two teams next season. An under-9s team already confirmed and either an under-10s or under-11s team to also take to the field.
West Ivanhoe will play home matches at Seddon Reserve with work set to commence on facility upgrades shortly.
The club will wear a blue jumper with a white vee.
West Ivanhoe will be the fourth junior club to join the NFL within the past three years following the introduction of Laurimar and Bundoora Park in 2011 and Kinglake in 2012.
It takes the total number of clubs competing in the Northern Football League to 26.
