Greensborough Junior Football Club was one of many NFNL clubs to support remembrance activities during the weekend’s round of football and netball matches, ahead of Anzac Day.
Greensborough Junior Football Club this year participated in the RSL Anzac Appeal Community Jumper Program, with two junior teams wearing the special commemorative jumpers last Sunday.
The club’s team captains and leaders attended Box Hill RSL on Wednesday night to officially receive their jumper sets on behalf of the club from the RSL Victorian State President Dr Robert Webster OAM.
Junior players will also represent the club tomorrow in laying a wreath as part of the Greensborough Anzac memorial service.
Greensborough JFC president John Waugh said it was important for junior players to be educated about the Anzac legacy.
“We look forward the opportunity for our football club to play its part in the community at this time of national remembrance,” Waugh said.
The NFNL is extremely proud of the manner in which its clubs have supported remembrance activities ahead of Anzac Day on April 25.
Among the many Anzac Day initiatives NFNL clubs participated are:
• Bundoora Football Club wearing a specially-designed jumper as part of the RSL Anzac Appeal Community Jumper Program
• St Mary’s displaying the Anzac emblem on Whatmough Park during its home games against Kilmore
• Bendigo hosting VU Western Spurs in support of Bendigo District RSL, with a post-game auction held at Bendigo RSL
• One-minute silence and the playing of the Last Post prior to most senior and junior matches last weekend
• Montmorency hosting La Trobe University in a senior women’s match under lights at Montmorency Park on Anzac Day eve
• Heidelberg Football Club hosting a dawn service for the Heidelberg community on Anzac Day
