The NFNL Match of the Day team, consisting of Tom Flanagan, Jordan Kounelis, Samuel Zito, Nicholas Sacco, Jarrad Gardner and Ben Pascuzzi, covered 35 games from the senior men’s and women’s competitions during the 2018 season.
The coverage commenced at 1pm each Saturday with the hour-long NFNL Preview Show. During the show the broadcast team previewed all the weekend’s football matches in the NFNL. Interviews were also conducted with the senior coaches of the two teams from the upcoming broadcast game.
From 2:00pm to 4:30pm the commentary team called all the action from the match of the day, with regular crosses to the boundary rider for injury updates and interviews with senior coaches. Live scores from around the grounds were also provided at regular intervals.
The NFNL Review Show commenced once the final siren sounded. The review included an interview with the player adjudged the Midas Greensborough Player of the Day by the commentary team. Results from around the grounds were also announced, along with live ladders.
Highlights from the 2018 season included covering every senior men’s and women’s grand final, as well as both men’s and women’s representative games against the MPNFL and SEW at Preston City Oval in May. The broadcast also went to air on Sundays during the finals series.
The match of the day broadcast airs on 88.6 Plenty Valley FM and is also streamed live online via the NFNL and 88.6 Plenty Valley FM websites, as well as on the NFNL TeamApp.
Division 1 scribe Samuel Zito was shortlisted for Best Football Column (Football Record) for the weekly Meadows Greyhounds Division 1 Preview.
The Northern Football Netball League Facebook page was recognised for continuing to provide outstanding coverage from the NFNL football competitions.
Produced with Sportscast Australia, all senior grand finals were live streamed on Facebook this year, along with senior representative games and key events such as the senior and junior best and fairest awards.
The Division 2 men’s grand final received more than 12,000 views, with fans unable to attend the match able to tune in to witness the dramatic finish that saw Lower Plenty’s Ben Paterson kick the winning goal with the final kick of the match.
The Frank Rosbrook Medal was filmed across four parts, which received more than 16,500 views. The coverage of the Junior Best and Fairest Awards also proved to be a success, with more than 8,000 people tuning in to watch the NFNL’s junior stars’ night of nights.
Highlights packages of every senior men’s match and all women’s finals were also published to Facebook, ensure NFNL fans were able to see all the best bits from the 2018 NFNL season.
NFNL photographer Nathan McNeill, from Nathan William Media, was nominated in both photography categories after another fantastic season behind the lens.
Nathan William Media covered all the action from the football field and netball courts in 2018 and did a tremendous job to cater for the league’s increased action photography requirements.
The Northern Football Netball League congratulates all those nominated in the 2018 AFL Victoria Community Media Awards and thanks its entire media team for its outstanding coverage and dedication to the league throughout the 2018 season.
The 2018 AFL Victoria Community Media Awards will be held on Friday December 7.
