Giles to step down from Roosters role

Published on Tuesday, August 29, 2023

West Preston-Lakeside has announced that Luke Giles will not return to the club as senior men’s coach in season 2024.

Giles joined the Roosters 12 months ago following the departure of two-time premiership coach Rob Maiorana.

He spent six seasons as an assistant at the Northern Knights before taking the reins at J.E. Moore Park.

In 2023, the Roosters finished in ninth position on the Melbourne Greyhounds Division 1 ladder with a 5-13 record.

A club statement said:

Following our final game for the 2023 season last Saturday, Luke Giles informed the playing group of his decision to resign from the position of Senior Coach of the WPLFC.

Despite the numerous challenges faced by Luke throughout the season, his dedication to the Roosters was unquestionable.

Injuries ensured that more than 40 players represented us at senior level throughout the year with our senior team never fielding its strongest team at any point in time.

Throughout this, Luke remained committed to the task, stayed positive and got as many games as possible into our youngsters.

We wish to acknowledge Luke’s contribution to the Roosters and thank him for all his hard work, persistence and passion throughout what was a very challenging season for our football club.

From everyone at the WPLFC, all the very best for the future, Luke.
