Published on Thursday, September 21, 2023

All the results from the 2023 Rosbrook Medal Night.

Heidelberg midfielder Lachlan Wilson claimed the Frank Rosbrook Medal as the best and fairest player in Melbourne Greyhounds Division 1.

It’s the second time he’s won the award and is now the first Heidelberg player to win multiple Division 1 best and fairest’s.

The award adds to an impressive list of accolades for the 24-year-old which includes two premierships and three Division 1 Team of the Year appearances; and he will be looking to add to those two accomplishments by the end of the week.

Tane Cotter became the first best and fairest winner from St Mary’s after claiming the MC Labour Division 2 best and fairest in 2023. Cotter polled in nine of 18 games this year, three of those being three-vote games, which proved to be enough to sneak past Eltham ruck Thomas Goodwin in the final round of the season.

Meanwhile Heidelberg West ruck Lachlan Evans dominated the Heidelberg Golf Club Division 3 best and fairest vote count to claim the award by four votes ahead of Mernda’s Billy Morrison. He had seven three-vote games in a brilliant campaign with the Hawks.

Diamond Creek Women’s star Maykaylah Appleby won the Heidelberg Golf Club Division 1 Women’s best and fairest in a tight vote count. She had five three-vote games to go past Emily Beanland in the final round to win the award.

After winning the Division 3 best and fairest last year, Gulia Ceravolo stepped it up to win the Cleaning Melbourne Division 2 best and fairest, while Wallan premiership captain Kelly Lennox took home the NFNL Division 3 women’s best and fairest.

An incredibly close Section 1 leaderboard saw Heat’s Tahnysha Salanoa finish as the competition’s best and fairest for 2023. She polled in four of the last six games of the season, with her three votes in the last match proving to be the winning votes, as the top 10 players were split by just four votes.

Other netball best and fairest award winners were Casey Lashford (Section 2); Dakota Lister (Section 3); Jessica Kerr (Section 4), Leah Seeto (Section 5), Diandra Mponda (Section 6), Christie Moore (Section 7), Ella Stoward (Section 8), Bianca Clamp (Section 9), Tara Wright (Section 10), Emily Timani (Section 11), Arielle Earps (Section 12) and Kayla Borthwick and Taylah Curavic (Section 13).

Montmorency’s Marcus Lentini picked up the Division 1 Coaches MVP with Tyrone Leonardis winning the Division 2 award and Luke Wilson recieving the Division 3 award.

Meanwhile Emily Beanland claimed the Division 1 women’s Coaches MVP Award with Emmison Zealley and Chloe Rowan winning the Division 2 and 3 awards respectively.

Bundoora’s Ashlee Hansen finished as the NFNL Netball Representative MVP.

Old Eltham Collegians were named the 2023 Senior Club of the Year, Russell Yin was awarded Field Umpire of the Year, Shane Purss the Netball Umpire of the Year, while Banyule’s Bruce Ryan was named the Volunteer of the Year.
