West Preston-Lakeside has signed Ian Aitken as the club’s new senior men’s coach ahead of the 2024 campaign.

Aitken will return to the Roosters after he was an assistant coach in the club’s 2018 men’s premiership triumph.

The Carlton premiership player takes over from Luke Giles after his one-year tenure at J.E. Moore Park.

He has previously held coaching positions at multiple clubs at VFL and local level, and heads to West Preston-Lakeside following his second stint at Kew in the VAFA.

A club statement said:

The WPLFC is delighted to announce the appointment of Ian Aitken as our senior coach for the next 2 years.

Ian is well known to our Club, having played a key role in our 2018 premiership win.
Ian comes to WPLFC with an impressive coaching resume, having coached in the VFL, the EDFL, the VAFA & the NFNL.

Ian’s strong development focus has also seen him head up football programs at both Xavier College & Box Hill Secondary College – 2 strong footballing schools.

Ian’s strong relationship with a number of our existing playing group and his desire to play a key role in getting our Club back to competing in finals were the overriding factors in our Club appointing Ian to the Head Coach position.

We warmly welcome Ian and his family back to West and we look forward to the journey ahead.
