Twelve sides maintained an unbeaten start to the season following Round 2 of our 2025 senior women’s competition.
Heidelberg Golf Club Division 1
Eltham continued its perfect return to the senior women’s competition, this time picking up a 42-point win over Lower Plenty at Eltham Central Park. The Panthers booted three majors in each quarter and registered 22 total scoring shots in the 12.10 (82) to 6.4 (40) result. In her season return, Michaela Molenberg kicked four majors against her old side while North Melbourne VFLW premiership player Tahlia Meier finished as her side’s best in her Eltham debut. Ava Klaic impressed again for the Bears as did Amelia Mullane.
Montmorency 1 were at their clinical best against Darebin 1 at Montmorency Park North Oval, winning to the tune of 161 points. The 25.11 (161) to 0.0 (0) result came through the Magpies kicking 14 first half goals, helping them to record their highest total score ever in the senior women’s competition. Jessica Nursey kicked six majors, Shelby Lemire booted five goals and Monique Migotto finished with four goals, with the trio some of the nine individual goalkickers for the home side. On a tough day for the Falcons, Sierra Chandler and Larisa Dumitriu were highlights.
A terrific battle at Whatmough Park saw St Mary’s hold on to produce a nine-point victory over Heidelberg. The Burra led every change, but only by one-point at both quarter time and half time, before kicking 1.8 in the second half to finish 4.10 (34) to 4.1 (25) winners. Cate Dynes was superb in the win, as was Jaydah Hope who kicked two goals, while Annabel Bourke and Amelie Gilchrist stood tall for the Tigers. Emma Rowe kicked all four of the away side’s goals to keep her team in the hunt throughout the afternoon.
Diamond Creek Women’s 1 made it two wins from two after proving too strong for Banyule in a 54-point triumph at Plenty Park Oval. The Creekers got off to a magnificent start with a five-goal to nil opening term, before then holding off a resurgent Bears outfit, particularly in the third term with four goals, to finish 13.11 (89) to 5.5 (35) victors. Linda Thorp was a star up forward and kicked eight majors to help propel her side to victory, the most goals she’s kicked in a match since 2022. Megan Barnes and Annabel Goodison were impressive for Banyule despite the loss.
Cleaning Melbourne Division 2
Greensborough got on the board for season 2025 after a 102-point victory over Diamond Creek Women’s 2 at Plenty Park Oval. A five-goal to nil first term set the tone in the 16.19 (115) to 2.1 (13) triumph, with the Boro keeping the Creekers scoreless after half time along the way. Dakota Gray De Jong became the focal point up forward for the Boro and she delivered in spades, finishing with a career-high eight-goal haul for the visitors. Jessie Hulett also shone for the away side while the Creekers were led by promising efforts from Bonnie Cantrill and Laura Di Domenica.
A terrific encounter saw West Preston-Lakeside hang onto an eight-point win over Ivanhoe at Ivanhoe Park. In what was a great battle between two of the top sides in the competition, the Roosters got out to a 15-point half time lead before it was cut to a seven-point advantage at the final change. Both sides kicked two goals apiece in the last term, but it was the away side who prevailed 7.6 (48) to 6.4 (40). Captain Trinity Mills led the charge for West Preston-Lakeside and kicked three goals in the win, while Avena Henriksen stood out in her second game for the Ivies.
South Morang responded to their opening round defeat with a strong 48-point victory over Panton Hill at A.E. Cracknell Reserve. The Lions led by 16 points at the main break, before a 4.10 second half boosted the side to a terrific 6.15 (51) to 0.3 (3) triumph. For the second straight week, Mikayla Bennett and Devony Hoare finished as the away side’s best while Hailey Cordova and Ella Pinney kicked two goals apiece. Redbacks skipper Amelia Pullybank was a highlight for her side, as was Bianca Walker.
NFNL Division 3 Women’s
Heidelberg West broke away in the final term to secure their first win of the season, defeating Montmorency 2 by 14 points at Montmorency Park North Oval. Scores were level at three quarter time to set up an intriguing final term, before the Hawks kept the Magpies scoreless in the last quarter and kicked two goals of their own to claim a 5.2 (32) to 2.6 (18) win. Three majors from Kristy-Leigh Sim were crucial in the away side getting the four points, while Chloe Rowan excelled once again for the Hawks. Playing well for the hosts were the likes of Hayley Keating and Olivia Nesci.
In what was an even battle for most of the afternoon, Epping were able to defeat Laurimar by nine points at Epping Recreational Reserve. The match was close for much of the contest, with the Blues turning a five-point three quarter time lead into a 2.9 (21) to 1.4 (10) triumph to get off the mark in season 2025. Maddison Burridge was listed as her side’s best player and was also one of two goalkickers for the Blues, the other being Naomee Hoeboer. Stephanie Crook had another brilliant performance for the Power.
Kilmore continue to enjoy life in the senior women’s competition with a comprehensive 87-point win over Whittlesea at the Whittlesea Showgrounds. An eight-goal first half and a seven-goal second half was what helped the Blues put together a strong 15.9 (99) to 2.0 (12) triumph. After a three-goal outing last week, Chloe Talbot produced six majors against her old junior side, while Chiara Nardo continued her great form with four majors of her own. Olivia Hodgson and Kaila Vangeli played well for the Eagles in defeat.
North Heidelberg made it two from two following a 25-point victory over Reservoir at Shelley Street Reserve. After six points separated the two teams at half time, a three-goal third term proved to be key in the Bulldogs setting up a 6.4 (40) to 2.3 (15) triumph. Meg Harper and Teresa Cassar were pivotal in the home side producing another win, the latter booting three goals for the third time since the start of the 2024 season. Reservoir saw great games from Jemma Guglielmi and Gladys Sango.
A three-goal final term helped Hurstbridge remain undefeated in 2025, as they defeated Macleod by 28 points at Ben Frilay Oval. After a 13-point half time deficit, the Roos brought the margin back to nine points by the final change, but the Bridges were too strong in the final quarter to help produce a 7.6 (48) to 3.2 (20) victory. Ruby Butterfield was terrific in the hosts’ triumph, while Natarsha Harrop, Emily Pannam and Briney Prideaux were all multiple goalkickers. Alessandra Galletti had another solid display for Macleod.
