Ivanhoe made it back-to-back wins yesterday afternoon with a 37-point triumph over Kilmore in their Heidelberg Golf Club Division 3 clash at JJ Clancy Reserve.
Both teams came into the weekend fighting for a spot in the top five, with Ivanhoe taking home the win 12.10 (82) to 7.3 (45).
The win moves Wayne Schutlz’s side to fifth while Kilmore drop down to seventh after Mernda’s victory over Heidelberg West.
The pair came off strong wins in last week’s round, with Ivanhoe winning by 106 points against Lalor while Kilmore defeated Old Eltham Collegians by 86 points.
For Paul Derrick’s men, Joshua Coe and Bailey Derrick were fantastic while Jaden Smith and Jesse Taylor both kicked two goals each.
From the Hoers, Kane Veliou and Ben Wiggins were standouts with Connor O’Brien, Tristan Stead and Wayne Schultz kicking two goals each.
The Hoers got off to a fast start, kicking five goals in the first term while keeping the Blues to a point, resulting in a 5.2 (32) to 0.1 (1) lead to the away side.
Coming into the second term Kilmore increased their offensive pressure and were able to capatalise on their offensive entries.
In the end the Blues kicked three goals and conceded just one. Despite the advancement from the hosts, Ivanhoe took a 22-point lead at half time.
Ivanhoe knuckled down in the third term, kicking 10 out of a total 13 scoring shots in the term.
They were able to secure six goals as they continued to apply pressure leading them to sustain the ball within their forward 50, building on their lead to make it a 44-point margin at the final break.
The fourth quarter was a competitive term as the ball constantly moved around the ground, despite the pressure from both sides Kilmore scored the only goal for the quarter. Even with both teams bringing their all, neither team were able to capitalise on scoring shots this term.
Both sides put in the hard work, but it was Ivanhoe who came out on top, 12.10 (82) to 7.3 (45).
The Blues will face off with second-placed Laurimar next weekend while the Hoers will have a rest week with a bye.
