Seven NFNL juniors are about to embark on the sporting trip of a lifetime to represent Australasia in the Under 15 Ladies’ Gaelic Football team.
Montmorency’s Aviana Bowman, Bianca De Cesare, Darcie Di Carlo, Edie Feehan and Ava Prendergast (pictured above) along with Yarrambat’s Maya Bloomfield and Hannah Fitzgerald have been selected in the team which will travel to Ireland to play in the LGFA Féile tournament in June.
Féile is one of the most prestigious youth Gaelic Games tournaments in the world and brings together both Irish and international teams to compete, connect and celebrate culture through sport.
“It’s so exciting for the girls to have been selected for the team and get to represent the region on an international stage,” Montmorency Junior FNC Vice President Erin Ferrier said.
“All five have been active members of the MJFNC for six or more years now, so we can’t wait to see them do well in the tournament.”
Yarrambat JFC President Daniel Drake said Bloomfield and Fitzgerald’s selections were equally pleasing.
“It goes to show the unique pathways that football can take you on even in junior age groups. The whole of our club wishes all the girls well, I’m sure they will have a great time and enjoy the experience both on and off the field,” he said.
With the support of Australasia Gaelic Games, the team is seeking public support to help with the costs of attending and playing in the tournament. This includes flights, accommodation, transport and equipment. If you’d like to contribute to the U15 Australasia Féile team, you can do so via their team page on the Australian Sports Foundation website here.
The NFNL is proud to have contributed to the team’s travel costs in support of all players selected.
