St Mary’s Senior Football Club has announced the appointment of Con Borg as its senior coach for season 2014.

The appointment of Borg (pictured left) followed an exhaustive interview process, which included 14 applications from some very strong candidates.

Borg’s experience, professional approach, communication skills, as well as his ability to embrace St Mary’s club values, were just some of the skills he was able to display to satisfy the club’s key criteria.

In a statement released on its website, St Mary’s said it was thrilled by the new coaching appointment.

“We welcome Con, his wife Emily and young daughters Ruby and Sage to the St Mary’s family and wish them all the very best for season 2014,” the statement read.

“St Mary’s SFC looks forward to 2014 and are extremely keen to tackle the coming season full of drive, new found energy and purpose.

“St Mary’s SFC would also sincerely like to thank Brenton Kinnear for taking the helm over the last two seasons, however due to work commitments is unable to continue on as senior coach.

“We also wish BK, Amanda, Max and Harry all the very best for the future.”

Borg has an extensive involvement with the DVFL/NFL.

The 35-year-old has spent the past two seasons as senior assistant to Mario Bandera at Epping, where he helped guide the club to the 2012 Division 2 premiership.

Prior to that, he was Lower Plenty’s reserves coach in 2008 as well as an assistant to senior coach Jarrod Hart.

Borg played senior football at both Lower Plenty and Lalor and played the majority of his junior football with West Lalor.

St Mary’s finished the 2013 season in fifth place on the Division 3 ladder and will be looking to return to the finals after top-four finishes in 2011 and 2012.
