The Northern Football Netball League (NFNL) is delighted to confirm the appointment of Andrew Smith as a Board Director.
Smith is a well-respected figure within the NFNL and brings a wealth of experience in both business and sport.
His background includes an extensive career in Australian football which spans over 50 years, highlighted by a 39-game VFL/AFL career with Collingwood and the Sydney Swans. He also represented Victoria in the VFA with Brunswick.
Smith’s connection with the NFNL spans back to his playing days as a junior, representing Watsonia in the then DVFL, while also having a successful stint as senior coach of West Preston.
Currently an Executive Advisor at Pact Group, Smith has also had a storied career in general management, where he has led and grown businesses successfully for over 30 years and has held positions on multiple industry and company boards.
Smith is looking forward to playing a role in the NFNL as a Board Director and is looking forward to working with stakeholders across the League.
“In business and in many walks of life, you must have a customer mindset, looking at how can I win and grow with my customers and what do they need to succeed,” he said.
“A big part in that mindset is ensuring you put the right people in place and provide the tools & resources to deliver the clear strategy, objective & targets, before then holding people accountable.
“The same mindset is what I will apply here, with our ‘customers’ being the clubs, the players, the volunteers & support staff, as well as the umpires & importantly the community.”
Smith is also confident that through his business and sporting experience, he can help deliver the NFNL’s four key pillars from our latest strategic plan, being Participants & Volunteers, Community Connection, Umpiring, and People & Leadership.
“I understand the challenges of community sport and believe I can contribute positively to the four key focus areas, particularly in People & Leadership,” he said.
