Greensborough 2 made the most of their chances and were cleaner with ball in hand, defeating Bundoora 2 by four goals La Trobe Sports Stadium on Friday night.

In an entertaining Section 3 match-up, it was the Boro who prevailed 34-30 to maintain fourth spot on the ladder.

Bundoora got off to a fast start with goal shooter Lauren Pendlebury on fire early, gifting her team a four-goal lead early in the match.

Greensborough would fight back, with goal shooter Mia Sannholm instrumental in their fightback.

Bundoora headed into the first break one goal ahead, leading 10-9.

Greensborough wing attack Shae Woosnam was a ball of energy early in the game with her lethal passing setting up many Borough goals.

Meanwhile goal defence Emily Carpenter was a wall in the back third, making it difficult for Bundoora to score in the second half of the quarter.

Greensborough took control of the match in the second quarter, turning a one-goal quarter time deficit into a four-goal half time lead.

Centre Matilda Blakey controlled the midcourt for Greensborough and shooter Mia Sannholm was hard to stop in the circle, with nine goals.

Bundoora’s Bella Collodetti held her own in defence for the Bulls, providing key intercepts and clean transition through the court.

Bundoora trimmed Greensborough’s lead by one heading into the final quarter, following a fairly even third term.

Goal keeper Aleigha Walters was superb for Bundoora and grew in confidence as the quarter went on. Walters was proactive and produced two crucial intercepts for the quarter.

Despite moving to goal attack, Lauren Pendlebury continued to use her size to her advantage, allowing her to be the most dangerous player for the Bulls.

Greensborough’s Matilda Blakey made the most of her move to wing defence, setting up many forward plays from defence.

Boro goal attack Caitlin Mefflin was outstanding in the third term, using her speed to her advantage.

Trailing by three goals heading into the last, Bundoora’s Maighan Corps made her presence felt after a move to centre in the final quarter, trying hard to lift her team’s intensity.

However, Greensborough continued to find an answer to every question the Bulls’ posed.

Greensborough shooters’ Caitlin Mefflin and Mia Sannholm were on song in the final quarter. Sinead Flynn also had a good quarter in goal defence, getting her fingertips to many lob passes.

Mia Sannholm was lethal in attack for Greensborough, scoring a game-high 28 goals, while midcourter Matilda Blakey set the tone all match with her constant energy and precision passing.

Bundoora’s Lauren Pendlebury made her presence felt in goal shooter, standing tall for her side all night.

Bella Colllodetti and Aleigha Walters found their rhythm in defence during the game, however Greensborough was able to produce more chances throughout the match to ensure a four-goal win.

Final score: Greensborough 2 (34) def Bundoora 2 (30)
