A dominant second half has secured Greensborough a 50-point victory in their Melbourne Greyhounds Division 1 clash against Banyule at Beverley Road Oval.

After holding a two-goal lead at half time the Borough kicked eight goals to two in the second half to secure the 14.16 (100) to 6.14 (50) victory against the Bears on the road.

The result moves Matthew Hyde’s men into equal second with Montmorency after the Magpies went down to South Morang.

Damian Truslove’s men slip down another spot but remain inside the top five after North Heidelberg’s loss to Bundoora.

Borough captain Jack Johnston led the way in defence yet again for the Borough while Nathan Howard and Tom Brindley also having terrific performances.

Tyler Dixon was a livewire in attack, kicking three goals alongside Rayden Garrard who kicked all three of his goals in the last term.

For the Bears Jack Langford had a terrific game in defence whilst Oscar White provided plenty of class and effort on a wing.

Oliver Lubeck and Riley Ormerod also showed plenty of promise in ruck and attack, with Ormerod kicking three goals in the second term.

It was the home side on the front foot early. However they were unable to capitalise on some early chances on goal.

The Borough were able to make the most of their first chance through Jamie Smith though before missing some chances as they looked to build a solid base away from home.

A late goal from James Kayrooz after some more missed opportunities for the Bears saw them equal things up headed into the quarter time break.

Matthew Hyde’s men started with plenty of intent in the early stages of the second, kicking the first three goals of the term inside the first six minutes.

Banyule fought back through some Ormerod brilliance midway through the term before Ben Ham and Howard responded.

Ormerod’s third goal of the term then reduced the Bears deficit to just 12 points heading into the main break.

Both sides looked to gain the momentum in the early stages of the third quarter, with Greensborough the side striking first through Lachlan Hill.

That term they were able to take advantage of the territory they gained, kicking another two goals through Dixon and Smith to Banyule’s one to head into three quarter time up by four goals.

Both sides then looked to gain the ascendancy once again in the early stages of the last term, with the Bears doing most of the attacking.

After putting in the hard yards the Bears started to fade late and conceded five goals between the 16- and 27-minute marks, three of which coming off Garrard’s boot.

An Oscar White goal right before the final siren ended a tough day at the office for the Bears, a day where they lost their first home game of season 2025 at the hands of a rampaging Borough outfit.
