Brown to play for Lower Plenty

CAMPBELL Brown always earned the attention of AFL crowds, and the Lower Plenty Football Club is hoping he can do the same in the Northern Football League.

The Hawthorn premiership player and Gold Coast hard man will turn out for the Bears in their round nine clash at home to rival Montmorency on June 14.

The guest appearance game has been getting a run in the NFL in recent weeks, with Chris Tarrant playing for Hurstbridge last week and Alan Didak lining up for North Heidelberg this weekend.

Brown said a call from Lower Plenty president Gary White was enough to get him interested in playing for the Bears.

“I’ve just bought a place out in Hurstbridge, it’s in the area so I thought it’d be a good idea to come down and have a kick,” he said.

“We worked on a few dates. The 14th ended up working best for me and the club and it just happens to be the big derby. I’ll be having a crack and doing my best to get them over the line on the day.”

Still just 30 years old and not a year removed from the AFL, Brown should certainly provide a boost against the Magpies.

Lower Plenty committee member Grant Barden said it would be a big day for the Bears.

“Most of the guest appearance games around the league have been pretty successful,” he said.

“Obviously that’s what we’re hoping for. And we’re hoping he’ll give us more than a bit on the ground too. If we’re going to make finals, we’re going to need to pinch a win like that.”

Brown said work commitments prevented him from committing to a full season of footy, but he was playing where and when he could.

“It’s just great getting back out there and playing footy,” Brown said.

“You meet great guys who have a real passion for the game and love playing. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.

“Lower Plenty could be my new local club.”
