Kilmore 2 produced their most dominant display in Section 5 of the 2022-23 NFNL senior summer netball competition, defeating Epping 2 by 18 goals at La Trobe Sports Stadium.

Their triumph came off the back of a scintillating first half in which they scored 20 goals while conceding just five. It paved the way for Kilmore to claim the 32-14 victory.

It’s Kilmore’s first win in the 2022-23 summer netball competition since defeating Fitzroy Stars 1 in the final round of grading. The victory also sees them leapfrog Epping 2 into 5th place on the Section 5 ladder, sitting only a game (plus percentage) behind Hurstbridge 2 in fourth.

Kilmore goal defence Emily King had a starring performance, intercepting nearly every ball that came into her side’s defensive half, particularly in the opening two quarters, whilst also fighting gallantly throughout the entire contest.

Shooting duo Tayla Albert and Alyssah Chibnall also had stellar contributions to their side’s triumph, scoring 13 and 19 majors respectively. Meanwhile Epping’s Chelsea Perry scored 12 of her side’s 14 goals.

It was clear from the opening whistle that Kilmore would settle into the match the quickest and as a result, were able to take control of the contest from the opening few minutes.

Kilmore scored the first six goals of the game and didn’t concede until the sixth minute mark of the first term before then going on another six-goal run to create a 12-1 opening term.

Following a dominant first quarter, Kilmore continued to press home their advantage, with King leading the way once in the defensive half again. Down by 16 goals at the halfway point of the second term, Epping begun to find their feet and cause turnovers of their own.

They were able to slightly add to their total before the main break but still trailed by 15 majors.

Epping were able to match Kilmore’s intensity for parts of the third term which produced an even quarter of netball. However, they were unable to reduce their deficit, allowing Kilmore to get away with a 16-goal advantage at three quarter time.

Despite the one-sided scoreline, Epping didn’t slow down their determination to create a competitive contest, forcing multiple turnovers in the midcourt throughout stages of the final term.

Kilmore still managed to extend their lead by game’s end, on their way to producing their biggest victory and highest score of the summer season.
