Eagles triumphant in do-or-die final

Whittlesea 1 have secured a hard-fought five goal victory in their Cleaning Melbourne Premier Division 1 First Semi-Final with North Heidelberg 2 at La Trobe Sports Stadium.

After taking home a hard loss against North Heidelberg 1, the Eagles continue to push harder and managed to score a hard-fought win against North Heidelberg 2 winning 43 points to 38.

The result of this game sees North Heidelberg’s 2 season come to an end while Whittlesea 1 will meet Diamond Creek 1 this Friday for a spot in the Premier Division 1 decider.

Ella Tennant scored 28 goals for the Eagles this game, boosting her overall season tally to 207 goals. Alongside her, Molly Skehan, one of Whittlesea 1’s highest goal scorer, scored 15 goals for this game.

Holly Gray, Taysha Coates, Chloe Gray, Abbie Barnes, and Chylah Rogers all played exceptionally well for the Eagles.

Bree Florance, one of North Heidelberg 2’s highest goal scorer scored 22 goals for the Bulldogs this game, rounding off her overall season total to 215 goals.

Chelsea Jones, Raina Fimmel, Lilly Devlin, Ava Tarau, and Georgia Hatzikiriazis, also played outstandingly well for the Bulldogs this game.

The game started off strong with both teams going head-to-head against each other to keep the ball on their side, despite the Bulldogs having an early goal the Eagles responded quickly, and showed excellent and controlled teamwork throughout the entire game.

The Eagles showed early dominance, they had already scored 7 goals around the nine-minute mark while keeping the Bulldogs at only 4 goals.

There were many back-to-back goals between both teams in the second and third quarter, which resulted in a competitive, defensive and hard-fought game between both sides.

The Eagles scored in the last few seconds across all four quarters of the game, keeping the Bulldogs at arms length.

The Bulldogs started the fourth quarter of the game strongly, coming out with two back-to-back goals keeping them close to the lead to 33-31.

The pressure was on between both sides, however the Eagles responded back quickly leaving the Bulldogs at 37-32.

Despite the hard-fought game that both sides had, the Eagles positioned themselves well throughout the court, kept it under control and played that to their strength to gain them this win.

The Bulldogs played a very well game, their defence was strong and they made sure to work as a team to get to the ball and convert as many goals as they could, however the final scores didn’t go in their favour.
