Georgostathis rewarded for breakout performance

Elisabeth Georgostathis has been selected as a Round 7 AFLW Rising Star nominee.

Georgostathis starred in the Western Bulldogs’ 12-point win over Geelong at Whitten Oval on Friday night, recording 23 disposals and a goal.

Her disposal count smashed her previous best of 14, with her efforts recognised by both coaches, who awarded her eight votes in the AFL Coaches’ Association award.

The 20-year-old backed up the breakout performance with an impressive 19-possession haul in the Bulldogs’ draw against Gold Coast Suns on Tuesday night.

Georgostathis was selected by the Western Bulldogs at pick No. 9 in the 2019 AFL National Draft and has played 22 consecutive matches since making her debut in the opening game of the 2020 season.

She played for VU Western Spurs in 2018 and claimed the best and fairest award for the club’s Division 1 team – a remarkable achievement given she played much of the season as a 16-year-old.

Her efforts were rewarded with selection in the 2018 NFNL Division 1 Women’s Team of the Year.

Georgostathis captained the Western Jets in 2019 and was selected in the NAB League Team of the Year, while also representing Vic Metro and the Western Bulldogs VFLW side.

Players are eligible for the AFLW Rising Star if they are 21 years and under as of January 1, 2022, and have not been previously nominated. Two players will be nominated per home-and-away round of the NAB AFLW season.

Georgostathis was nominated alongside North Melbourne midfielder Isabella Eddey.

The NFNL congratulates Elisabeth on her nomination and wishes her the best of luck for the remainder of the 2022 AFLW season.
