Six-time AFL Grand Final umpire Darren Goldspink has been appointed the NFNL’s Junior Umpire Co-ordinator.

Goldspink will oversee the league’s junior umpiring programs and will be responsible for managing field umpiring appointments, coaching, observing and mentoring umpires.

NFNL Director of Umpiring Martin Ellis said Goldspink’s experience would be a great asset for the NFNL’s umpiring department in 2018.

“Darren brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience that will assist our junior umpires greatly moving forward,” Ellis said.

“With the growth of girls playing football and the increased numbers of teams playing in our junior competition it is fantastic that the league has recognised the need to support umpiring further.”

Goldspink umpired 371 AFL games in an career that spanned from 1989 to 2007.

He officiated in 37 finals, including the 1993, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2005 and 2006 grand finals and was awarded the All-Australian Umpire title on three occasions.

His addition further strengthens the NFNL’s umpiring panel, headed by Ellis – who umpired 244 AFL matches, including the 2001 grand final.

The panel also includes former AFL umpires Steve Hanley and Darren Agnew, ensuring the league’s umpires are mentored by coaches with vast experience from the highest level.
