Round 4 of Heidelberg Golf Club Division 3 football gives several clubs a chance to see them push for a top five spot.
Heidelberg West hosts Epping at Heidelberg Park in an intriguing encounter. The Hawks rebounded from a triple figure loss to defeat Kilmore at JJ Clancy Reserve last weekend. The victory propelled them into fifth place on the table. Their fans will be looking for the team to continue the winning tun back on their home deck.
Epping will be desperate to atone for the loss to Watsonia. If will be the first visit to the venue since 2024 when Brad Hollow’s men won by 49-points in round 16. Last season, these teams met only at Epping Recreational Reserve when the Blues triumphed by 81 points. Those form lines bode well for Epping fans and a win will put them ahead of the Hawks on the ladder, but Heidelberg West looks to have improved since then and a great spectacle awaits.
Kilmore has back-to-back home games when hosting Ivanhoe at JJ Clancy Reserve. The Hoers have looked unstoppable in their two games to date with triple digit victories against Heidelberg West and Reservoir and Ivanhoe Park. Adding to the confidence of Ivanhoe fans is the fact that they won at this venue last season by 37 points.
However, 2026 has been full of surprises and the Blues looked very good in their opening round win at Kinglake Memorial Oval. If they can reproduce that form, it will hold them in good stead.
Old Eltham Collegians welcomes Laurimar to Eltham College. The Power will be looking to be the first team to four wins and maintain top spot on the table. Their fans will be confident based on two wins in the 80-point range last season. Jimmy Atkins men will be looking to bank wins early in the season to ensure a good run into the finals.
The Turtles recovered from a close loss to Heidelberg West in the opening round to comfortably defeat Lalor at Lalor Reserve last weekend and that win should give them so momentum going into this game despite being underdogs.
Kinglake will be looking for its maiden win of the year when playing Reservoir at Kinglake Memorial Oval. Remarkably, both teams lost by over 100 points last weekend to divisional heavyweights. With the Lakers going down by 158 points to Laurimar at Laurimar Reserve and the Mustangs outclassed by Ivanhoe to the tune of 110 points.
It shapes as an interesting match-up. Reservoir’s form reads better so far as they had a big win over Lalor on Good Friday, but now they face back-to back away games. A win would put them in touch with the top five, so they will have plenty of motivation in this contest.
The Lakers fans will see this as a very winnable game, given the distinct home ground advantage in a match that has ramifications on the lower end of the ladder.
Mernda comes off the bye to play Watsonia at Binnak Park in a fascinating contest. The Saints have recorded back-to-back upset wins over Reservoir at Crispe Park and Epping at Binnak Park. Their fans will be confident of a good showing as they play on their home ground for the second week running.
The Demons will give themselves a great chance based on their narrow ten-point loss to Laurimar at Waterview Recreation Reserve prior to the bye. Watsonia went down to the Power by 78 points in the opening round, which would indicate that Mernda deserve favouritism in this one. Having said that, the Saints look to have gelled together well since that game but will need to cover the sizeable hole left by Cameron Cloke’s absence.
The two most recent teams to come off the bye flew out of the blocks early but hit the wall before half time. Reservoir led 2.8 to 1.0 at Crispe Park against Watsonia in Round 2 and then trailed at the main break. Kilmore dominated the first half of term one last week against Heidelberg West and scored the first two majors but then struggled to maintain the momentum thereafter. The challenge for Mernda coach Brent Marshall will be to get his charges up for a four-quarter performance. It will be required against an improving Saints outfit.
