A look back over last weekend’s action in the Under-16 to Under-18 junior competitions.
Starting off a muddy football weekend were the Under 18 Girls. Diamond Creek and Mernda faced off at Plenty War Memorial Park, with the Creekers taking away a 14-point win. Kiara Keenan and Taihlar-Jo Kampf played their best for the Creekers alongside multiple goalkickers while Catherine Wilson and Charli King fought hard for the Demons with Ameerah Gentle kicking both of their goals.
The top two, Yarrambat and Research, met at Yarrambat War Memorial Park. In a nailbiter the Bats came away with a one-point win, making it the Searchers first loss of the season. Grace Daly and Lilly Tebbatt were standouts from the Bats, Daly being the Bats only goalkicker. Isabella Turner and Sierra Filippone gave their best for the Searchers and despite the loss they remain on top of the ladder.
Eltham were out this week with a bye.
The Under 17.5 Boys got started at Greenhill Reserve with Wallan and Laurimar. The Magpies sustained their lead throughout the game leading to their 30-point win. Brayden McNamara and Darcy McNicholas led the Magpies while Matthew Mirra and Kade Weston gave their best from the Power.
Whittlesea defeated Eltham at the Whittlesea Showgrounds. Isaac Daniel and Jack Wunderlich led the Eagles to a 23-point win, with the Eagles remaining in front all day. Archie McHugh and Anthony Streat put in their best efforts for the Panthers, with Streat kicking two goals.
Diamond Creek claimed top spot after a 59-point win over Mernda at Coventry Oval. The Creekers had an outstanding game, kicking 20 goals on the day. Jack Morgan and Ethan Hardman showed off their talents with Hardman kicking five goals whilst Morgan kicked an impressive 10 goals for the Creekers. Cooper Carter and Jack Schembri gave their all for the Demons, Carter kicked four goals.
South Morang and Montmorency faced off at Montmorency Park. The Magpies came in strong, kicking five goals in the opening term which eventuated into their 29-point win. Chase Pell and Nicholas Torquati put in their best for the Lions while Sjouke Eyre and Zane Haddon were standouts from the Magpies alongside multiple goalkickers.
Yarrambat had the weekend off with the bye.
The Under 16 Girls (1) got started at Plenty War Memorial Park with Diamond Creek Women’s match against Mernda. The Demons kept their lead for most of the contest to come away with a 22-point win. Willow Hume and Lily Irvin gave their best for the Creekers, kicking a goal each for the side. Brenna Frost and Holly Muscat kicked two goals each for the Demons alongside multiple goalkickers.
Eltham made their way to JJ Clancy Reserve to face Kilmore. It was a close start with both sides kicking a goal each in the first term, but the Blues managed to kick another four goals while keeping the Panthers to just one, leading to the home side’s 24-point victory. Heidi Pirpinias and Amarni Bentley led the Blues while Willow Carbone and Charlotte Morris gave their best for the Panthers.
Yarrambat maintained their undefeated season against Research at Research Park. The Bats had a strong 76-point win, kicking 16 goals on the day. Winnie Fitzgerald and Bronte Cail were standouts from the Bats while Lucy Wilson and Charli-Jordan Ford both kicked five goals each. Ayva Humphreys and Dakota Edmonds gave their best efforts for the Searchers, Humphreys kicked two goals for the side.
Wallan and Laurimar got the Under 16 Girls (2) underway at Greenhill Reserve. The Power generated a 16-point win. Despite the loss, Mia Dumaloski and Heidi Jacobs gave their best efforts from the Magpies while Jasmine Bryant and Danika Ward kicked a goal each for the side.
Montmorency defeated top of the ladder Whittlesea in a nailbiter at Lower Plenty Oval. Scores were even in the first term but in the end the Magpies took away a close four-point win. Chloe Hicks and Zoey Cummings led the Magpies, Hicks kicked two goals for the side, while Kiah McKinnon-Rowe and Lily-May Lee were solid for the Eagles.
South Morang and Darebin met at Mill Park Lakes Recreation Reserve. The Lions came in strong, kicking four goals in the opening term while keeping the Falcons to just one for the game to secure a 28-point win. Millie Maher and Ava Boardman put in the best for the Falcons while Elena Cortese and Cammryn Warke led the Lions in the 28-point victory.
The Under 16 Boys (1) kickstarted with South Morang and Whittlesea at Mill Park Lakes Recreation Reserve. In an incredibly close game the Lions managed to keep in front for the first half until the Eagles hit the front at the end of the third term by only one point. In the end it was the Eagles who took away a four-point win. Jaxson Meyer and Noah Carroll led the Eagles while Nicholas Salerno and Ilias Vasiliadis fought hard for the Lions.
Laurimar continued their undefeated season against Yarrambat at Laurimar Reserve. The Bats hit the front in the first term, but with the Power kicking six goals to the Bats two for the day, it led the Power to a 20-point win. Robbie King and Fletcher Carrick starred for the Power in the victory while Benjamin Hodgson and Digby Squirrell gave their best for the Bats.
Eltham had an impressive 83-point win over Diamond Creek at Eltham Central Park. The Panthers kicked 16 goals for the game while generating 37 scoring shots. Jeremy Potter and Axton West led the Panthers, West kicking four goals. Jordan Giamarelos and Xavier Eastham gave their best for the Creekers while Oliver Shields kicked three goals for the side.
Kilmore made their way to War Memorial Park to face Greensborough. The Blues made it hard for the home side, kicking 14 goals for the day to take away an 84-point win. Campbell White and Lachlan Connellan were standouts from the Blues with Max Lehner kicking three goals. Tyler Vangelista and Owen Eldridge gave their best for the Borough.
Wallan and West Preston-Lakeside got the Under 16 Boys (2) started at Greenhill Reserve. The Magpies stayed in front, kicking 15 goals to have a 100-point win. Vincent Luci and Darby Bishop led the Magpies, Bishop kicked four goals alongside Brodie Hall and Oliver Norman who kicked three goals each. Despite the loss William Chantry and Hayden Finerty put in the best for the Roosters.
Montmorency and Research faced off at Montmorency Park North Oval. The Magpies won the first term, but the Searchers took the lead from half time onwards, kicking 11 goals for the day to come away with a 32-point win. Zachary Cochrane and Jordan Groves were standouts from the Searchers, Cochrane kicked an impressive six goals. Zac Webster and Lachlan Ross gave their all for the Magpies with James Black kicking three goals for the side.
Laurimar met Kinglake at Kinglake Memorial Oval. The Power came in strong, kicking 14 goals to take away a 93-point win. Lachlan Hendrie and Dean Siderakis showed off their talents for the Power with Siderakis kicking nine goals for the day.
Mernda and Hurstbridge met at Waterview Recreation Reserve. The Demons held a prominent lead, kicking twelve goals which led to their 54-point win. Benjamin Ridding and Jett Philips led the Demons, Ridding kicked six goals. Shannon Knight and Harvey Wold gave their best efforts for the Bridges.
