A look back over last weekend’s action in the Under-16 to Under-18 junior competitions.
Eltham and Research kicked off the Under 18 Girls at Eltham Central Park. Eltham scored the first goal of the game in the first quarter, keeping the Searchers at 0.2 (2) and Eltham at 1.0 (6). Eloise Sanders scored both goals for Eltham through-out the game. Research stayed consistent after Eltham was in favour of the first quarter. They kicked 3 goals through-out the game. 2 by Matilda Raphael and 1 by Scarlett Hall. They won by 14 points 3.9 (27) to 2.1 (13).
Mernda faced Yarrambat at Waterview Reserve; Yarrambat left with a 14. 6 (90) to 0.0 (0) victory against the Demons. Jemma Buckingham, Georgia Graham, Jordan Herni, Charlotte Merrett, Jasmine Sellman, Ebony Smith and Lilly Tebbat all scored a goal for the Bats while Rylee Mountney scored a total of five goals throughout the game and Winnie Fitzgerald scored two.
Diamond Creek Women’s had the weekend off with a bye.
Montmorency played at their home ground against Eltham Black for the Under 17.5 Boys, with Eltham taking the win by just three points. It was a close game for both teams, the scores were tied at the second quarter at 2.7 (19). Eltham then kicked three goals to two in the third before holding off the Magpies in the final term. Eight goals were scored from both sides, Benjamin Feeney scored a total of 4 goals for Montmorency, Joshua Galloway, Zachary Locklier and Riley Watts also scored for their team. 6 of Eltham Black’s players scored a goal, Rhanie Howse and Angus Smith both scored two goals each.
Diamond Creek played against Whittlesea, at Whittlesea Showgrounds. The Creekers were able to take away a 48-point win against the Eagles, remaining inside the top three of the ladder in the process. William Angwin and William Morrison played well for the Eagles, scoring a total of 5 goals together, Darcy Draper also scored a goal. As for the creekers, 8 of their players scored a goal, Matteo Demarte scored 3 goals.
Yarrambat continue to stay undefeated and at the top of the ladder as they faced Wallan at their home ground, they took the win by 47 points. Archer Harvey had a great game for Yarrambat, scoring 5 goals. James Kelly, Campbell Harrison, Beau McAuliffe, Hayden Walker, and Archie Soccio were some stand outs for Yarrambat.
South Morang Blue faced Mernda at Waterview Reserve and took home the biggest win of the weekend by 87 points. Despite not winning the game Mernda still played well against the Lions, the Lions were able to hold the Demons back in the first quarter and they stayed consistent throughout the game. Justin Spadorcia, Adriano Centurino, and Ben Lyons scored goals for the Demons. Nine players from the Lions scored goal, their highest goal kickers were Adam Huybers with five goals, Kaden Isherwood with four and Jake Buzzini with two.
Laurimar were out this week with a bye.
The Under 16 Girls (1) kicked off with Kilmore playing against Diamond Creek Womens, the Creekers winning by 16 points, 5.8 (38) to 3.4 (22). It was a close game between both teams, the Creekers held Kilmore back in the first and second quarter, but they managed to get closer to the Creekers. Jessica Hazelwood-Smith and Lily Irvin kicked two goals each for the Creekers. Tahnee Davis, Heidi Pirpinias Sophie Gardiner, Amelia Paxinos, Matilda Skora and Maddison Pike gave their best efforts for Kilmore.
Research faced Eltham Black at Research Park, with the Panthers winning by 36 points, 12.5 (77) to 6.5 (41). The scores were equalised at the first quarter, however the Panthers fought strong and held the Searchers back throughout the game. Ruby Hartney scored 7 goals for the Panthers, and 4 of their players also scored a goal for their team. Grace Hegarty and Ayva Humphreys both scored 2 goals for the Searchers.
Sitting at the top of the table undefeated, Yarrambat took a massive win against Mernda 17.13 (115) to 0.1 (1). 10 of the Bats players scored a goal this game with Winnie Fitzgerald scoring four goals. She was also one of the best players this game, alongside Bronte Cail, Grace Robinson, Deena Gerges and Daisy Whyte.
The Under 16 Girls (2) started off with South Morang facing Montmorency at Mill Park Lakes Reserve, the Lions taking the win by 69 points, 12.5 (77) to 1.2 (8). Mia Maxey, Natalie Toohey, Lily Denton, Chloe Hicks, Tayla Baker and Milana Grillo were some of Montmorency’s stand out players. Five of the Lion’s players scored a goal this game, their highest goal kickers were Natasha Penn, Faith Raskatos and Cammryn Warke with a total of eight goals between them.
Sitting at the top of the ladder, Whittlesea claimed a 69-point point win against Wallan. Jasmine Bryant, Taleea brown, Summer McPharlene, Ruby-Rose Jones and Molly Mitchell were some of Wallan’s best players this game. The Eagles had six goal kickers this game, while Alannah Purcell, Skyla Robinson, Jamie Robinson, Sienna Hutchinson, Zoe Kendall and Zoe Hawking were among their better players.
Darebin Womens won against Laurimar by forfeit.
Laurimar Black and Whittlesea Under 16 Boys (1) faced off this weekend at Laurimar Reserve. Undefeated at the top of the ladder, Laurimar Black won by 75 points, 19.12 (126) to 8.3 (51). 12 of Laurimar’s players scored a goal, Will Broadbent, was the highest goal kicker this game with 3 goals. Phoenix Ray, Noah Anderson, and Orlando Andersen-Wells were some of the Eagles best players this game.
Eltham Black played against Yarrambat at Eltham Central Park, with the Panthers winning by 42 points, 14.7 (91) to 6.13 (49). The Bats gave their best efforts, but the Panthers were the better team of the day. Darcy Corr, Noah Watts and Andrew Sevas gave their best efforts for the Bats. Axton West scored seven goals for the Panthers while Noah Fleischmann scored three.
Diamond Creek went down by 44 points to Kilmore in their clash at Coventry Oval. The Creekers had three goal kickers this game, with Xavier Eastham and Oliver Shields scoring two goals each. Lucas Chesswas and Max Lehner both scored five goals for Kilmore, Frazer McMahon scored 2 and Cohen Breen scored 1.
South Morang took home a big win for their team against Greensborough, 19.22 (136) to 1.2 (8). The Lions had already scored 11 goals by the third quarter of the game. Adam Abdo, Zach Elia and Mitchell Douglas gave their best efforts for Greensborough, and Nathan Halley scored a goal. The Lions had 12 goal kickers, Alex Parisi was their highest goal kicker with 5 goals, alongside him Brodie Crisp with 4 goals.
In the Under 16 Boys (2) competition, Montmorency faced Mernda at Montmorency Park North Oval, with Mernda claiming the win by 57 points, 14.12 (96) to 5.9 (39). The scores were close at the first quarter, 2.2 (14) for the Demons and 2.0 (12) for Montmorency, however the Demons put up a strong fight and got the win. Zac Webster played well for Montmorency. Jett Philips and Luke Politino were the Demons highest goal scorers this game with 3 goals each.
Kilmore White faced a defeat against West Preston-Lakeside at JJ Clancy Reserve, the Roosters winning by 54 points, 10.13 (73) to 2.7 (19). Six of West Preston-Lakeside Players scored a goal each this game, Dean DeMaria was their highest goal kicker with four goals. Max Buhagiar and Xavier Cumming Jones both scored a goal for Kilmore White.
Hurstbridge took home a big win against Laurimar Teal, winning 14.14 (98) to 2.4 (16). The Bridges had scored five points in the first and continued to push harder for the win. Mitchell Minihan, Jake Keena and Jai Culph gave their best efforts for Laurimar while Jude Colwell and Lucas Gouin scored a goal each. Hurstbridge had eight goal kickers, with Eden Harris leading the charge with four goals.
Wallan and Research played against each other at Greenhill Reserve, the Searchers winning by 32 points, 7.17 (59) to 4.3 (27). There were no goals kicked until the second quarter of the game. Vincent Luci, Chase Fowler and Ayden Curtis played well for Wallan. The searchers had five goal kickers, James Kelly was the highest goal kicker, with 3 goals.
