The Northern Football League has been shortlisted for three awards at the 2013 Community Football Media Awards.
The league’s three nominations are in the following categories: Best Use of Online Media, Best Radio Match Day Coverage and Best Column.
The league website (www.nfl.org.au) was nominated for Best Use of Online Media for its originality, depth of coverage, presentation and insight.
Throughout the season the NFL website introduced a number of new initiatives – including live scoring, a weekly Top 5 Plays of the Day highlights package and weekly team selection announcements.
These were in addition to existing features such as the publishing match replays, broadcast of NFL TV and publication of match previews and reviews.
The NFL radio team’s match day broadcast was nominated in the Best Radio Match Day Coverage category.
In 2013, the radio team called a total of 28 matches from 14 different venues across all three senior divisions.
They called a game each Saturday of the season on 88.6 Plenty Valley FM and also called the action in the league’s first night match broadcast, as well as three Sunday broadcasts during the finals series.
The Division 1 Preview – which features in the NFL record The Northerner each week – was also nominated for Best Column.
NFL media manager Samuel Zito commended the media team on the number of nominations the league received.
“To have three nominations for the Community Football Media Awards is a credit to the league’s media volunteers,” he said.
“The passion and dedication displayed by the NFL’s media team is evident in the quality of their work and ensures the league receives the high quality coverage it deserves.”
The 2013 Community Football Media Awards will be held on Friday, November 29.
