Peacock becomes NFNL Chair in line with new League Strategic Plan

The Northern Football Netball League (NFNL) is delighted to announce the appointment of Michael Peacock as NFNL Chair, in line with the League’s next Strategic Plan, which will run for the next four years.

The Board appointed Peacock as chair in a board meeting following last night’s NFNL Annual General Meeting. He will replace Scott Walker, who will remain on the NFNL Board in 2025.

Peacock said it was an honour to accept the chair’s role after serving on the Board for the previous three years and gave credit to Walker for his contribution in the role.

“I’d like to thank my Board colleagues for their confidence and trust in me as incoming chair, and also for their commitment to the NFNL,” he said.

“I take great pride in following the footsteps of Scott Walker, who led the League through the challenges presented by the COVID pandemic and has provided a considered and strategic leadership focus for the Board.”

He also highlighted the importance of maintaining the high standard set by the Board of Directors as he commences his role.

“My main objective as chair is to support the ongoing professionalism and leadership of the Board and Staff, which will help the NFNL remain as a premier sporting league, on and off the football field and netball court,” he said.

Cherie Kelly, Nicolina Lademann, Paul McInerney and Chelsa Robson will also serve on the NFNL Board during the 2025 season, with McInerney to assume the role of vice-chair.

The NFNL wishes to thank outgoing vice-chair John Anderson for his valued service to the Board. Anderson joined the NFNL Board in 2020 and became vice-chair in 2022.

As new chair, Michael Peacock will steer the League through its new Strategic Plan, which was also announced at last night’s AGM.

Running from 2024-2028, the plan emphasises four key focus areas: Participants & Volunteers, Community Connection, Umpiring, and People & Leadership.

Peacock is delighted with the final result of the plan and believes it will serve as a key resource towards the NFNL’s goals over the next four years.

“As part of our development of this plan, there was considerable discussion about the fact that we are more than just football and netball competition,” he said.

“As a result, we believe our new strategic plan responds effectively to the key needs identified by our member clubs. It will ensure that the energy and effort of the Board and staff will be focused on the things that matter most to sustaining our existing clubs and managing competition growth and development.
