Players needed as Reservoir faces race against time

RESERVOIR Football Club senior coach Daniel McFerran has made a plea for local players to join his club ahead of the 2016 season.

The Mustangs have suffered a mass player exodus since winning the Division 3 premiership last September, leaving them desperately short of senior and reserves players.

After meeting with the league on Monday, the club has been given a March 18 deadline to find additional players in order to field a team this year.

McFerran has now urged any local players looking for a fresh start to consider joining Reservoir, as his club faces a race against time to compete this season.

“We’re looking for players of any experience to come on board and get behind the club,” McFerran said.

“It would be a great shame if we couldn’t field a team a year after winning our first senior flag in 31 years.

“We’re just urging anyone who might be looking for a new club, plus those who have been unable to attend training regularly this pre-season, to jump on board and get stuck in for the last two months of pre-season.”

McFerrran said there had been a core group of 15-20 players who had attended most training sessions and had committed to the club.

However, he said it was a necessity for more numbers to now jump on board in order for the club to field both a senior and reserves side this year.

He urged a new wave of players to help take the club forward.

“For a number of varied reasons we have lost some players from our premiership team, however that gives opportunity for a new group of players to take the club forward,” he said.

“This situation can provide a great chance for young players to play Division 2 football and kick-start their senior careers.”

Reservoir president Peter Vining said that while his club currently faced desperate times, it would do everything in its power to improve its position ahead of the 2016 season.

NFL CEO Peter McDougall said the Northern Football League will work closely with Reservoir to give the club every possible chance to take its place on the field this year.
