Andrew Shakespeare has been appointed head coach of the Northern Knights for season 2014.

Shakespeare comes into the role with long and varied coaching experience – which includes a number of roles at the Knights.

Over the past two seasons he has served as an assistant coach and has also been heavily involved in the setting up and implementation of an academy for the club’s under-15 and under-16 development squads.

Shakespeare has previously coached Coburg Tigers in the AFL Victoria Development League and has served as an assistant coach for Coburg in the VFL, and Montmorency and Greensborough in the NFL.

He has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Physical Education) and is currently completing a Bachelor of High Performance degree at Australian Catholic University.

Shakespeare replaces Marco Bello as senior coach of the Knights after Bello accepted a full-time development coaching position at Hawthorn Football Club.

The Knights begin pre-season training on November 25.
