SIX of the NFL’s best players will represent Vic Metro against Vic Country at Mernda’s Waterview Recreation Reserve on Sunday.

West Preston-Lakeside’s Rhett Jordon has been named as Vic Metro’s captain for the match.

The side he leads will include Montmorency duo Jesse Donaldson and Ben Fennell, Northcote Park’s Wayne Schultz, Macleod’s Justin White and Greensborough’s Dan McLinden.

After an initial 47-man squad was released last month, Vic Metro head coach Brian Royal and his selectors this week finalised the 24-man squad which includes players from 19 different metropolitan football clubs.

Of the five leagues represented in the squad, the Western Region Football League and Eastern Football League lead the way with seven players selected, followed by the Northern Football League (six), Southern Football Netball League (three) and Essendon District Football League (one).

Held every two years, the AFL Victoria Community Cup will see the best players from country Victoria lock horns with the top talent from metropolitan Melbourne in a match that has fast become one of the great traditional rivalries between the bush and the burbs.

Defeating Worksafe AFL Victoria Country by 38 points in its last encounter in 2014, Vic Metro is keen to continue its winning ways when the pair meet at the new location of Waterview Reserve (Waterview Drive, Mernda).

Entry into the ground is free and the NFL encourages all its members to get along and support the league’s six representatives.

The AFL Victoria Community Cup match will also be live streamed from 2pm at the AFL Victoria website aflvic.com.au

The NFL congratulates all six players on their selection and wishes them the best of luck for the match.
