Finishing two games clear atop the Northpark NFLW Division 2 ladder, the minor premiership sits comfortably with VU Western Spurs heading into the post-season.
The Spurs’ have been rewarded for their strong home and away form with a double chance and a place in this week’s second semi final against West Preston-Lakeside.
Despite proving to be the standout side in the regular season, Spurs coach Christina Polatajko is reluctant to speculate what success may lie ahead for her side.
“We aren’t getting too carried away. Regardless of how many games you’ve won and lost, finals is a different ball game. It’s a mental game now. We are back at square one and we start again,” Polatajko said.
The Spurs are well aware of the challenge ahead of them and are excited to confront a finals series that includes West Preston-Lakeside, Darebin and Kew.
“We are absolutely pumped about the finals. We know what is ahead of us and we know what we can achieve but we also know what other teams are wanting to achieve,” she said.
“We know that we are favourites but we are not going to get carried away. We have to put our heads down and be ready to go.
“We are so excited but we have to tone it down to make sure that we don’t get ahead of ourselves.”
Heading into the finals on a nine-game winning streak, Polatajko is confident of being able to carry their momentum into the second semi final.
“We want to make it ten wins and then eleven and finish up with the cup in our hands,” she said.
“We know that it will take a lot of work but the girls are in high spirits and they know that the belief we have is real.
“We have a week off but we are going to keep to our normal routine – nothing’s changed. We will make sure everyone stays fresh and not overdo it too much but then leading up to the final we will put our foot on the gas.
“The other teams are coming but we will ready for them.”
