Junior Review – Round 9, 2018

A look back over the Round 9 action in the under-16 to under-18 junior competitions.

In the Own Journey Travel Under-18 Girls, Montmorency continued its undefeated season with an 18-point win over Laurimar at Laurimar Reserve. Montmorency star Ebony Harris kicked two majors, along with Georgia Cleary playing exceptionally well. Britney Gutknecht was Laurimar’s goal kicker.

Darebin Falcons scored two-point victory over Research at Montmorency Park South Oval. Research had the lead going into the last quarter, but Darebin was able to keep them scoreless in the final term to kick ahead. Stephanie Elarmaly and Ella Grant-Campbell kicked the majors for Darebin, while Milla Fereday kicked both majors for Research. Sophia Padovano (Darebin) and Liza Costanzo (Research) played great games.

Yarrambat had a comfortable win over Wallan/Kilmore at J.J Clancy Reserve. This came with Taylah Selim Faux kicking four majors, while Alysha Goss played a well-rounded game. Ashleigh Grindlay performed well for Wallan/Kilmore.

Eltham had a 15-point victory over Whittlesea at Susan Street Reserve. Alannah Murray kicked two majors for the Panthers, combining well with Lily Timmons who put in a starring performance. Tiana Markey performed best for the Eagles.

In the Under-17 Boys, Greensborough had a hard fought two-point win over Mernda at Anthony Beale Reserve. Down by 22 points at the last change, Mernda surged in the last quarter but just fell short of victory. Kyle Johnson playing exceptionally well for the winners, while Jye Barker was best for Mernda with two goals.

Rangers had an impressive win over Kilmore/Wallan at Eltham Central Park. This came with Cooper James kicking three majors, along with David Evans and Caile Hogan kicking two. Ethan Giann (Rangers) and Callum Partridge (Kilmore/Wallan) were named for their teams.

South Morang took a two-point away win over Mill Park. Mill Park mounted a comeback in the final term, keeping South Morang to just one behind. The Lions’ win was with the help of Josh Lansfield kicking three goals, while Sam Indian played exceptionally well. Marcus Arico was best for Mill Park, while Noah Anthony Bazzano kicked three majors.

West Preston-Lakeside won its second game of the season, beating Whittlesea despite a late fourth quarter push from the Eagles at J.E Moore Park. Tyler Mcnamara kicked two majors for the Roosters, while Christopher Inkson played exceptionally well. Kyel Mcmillan performed best for Whittlesea.

Montmorency had a comfortable win over Diamond Creek at Montmorency Park to cement top spot. Connor Butcher and Riley Coleman combined for six majors, while Ben Crick played a great game. Joel Woods and Ethan Taylor tried hard for Diamond Creek.

In the Under-16 Blue, Research had an important win over Eltham at Eltham Central Park. Nicholas Osborne and Sam Boek performed best as their side kicked six goals to one after quarter time. Ethan Dixon performed best for Eltham.

Diamond Creek had a 27-point win over West Preston-Lakeside at J.E Moore Park, with the help of Jaspa Gook kicking two majors while Ben Major played a four-quarter game. Jasper Dang-Lynch was the Roosters’ best and kicker their goal.

A fast start helped Laurimar to a comfortable win over Mill Park at Redleap Reserve. The Power led by 32 points at quarter time, before winning by 34. Julian Janev kicked a game-high three goals for Mill Park, despite his side losing.

In the Under-16 Red, Kilmore had a comfortable win over South Morang at Mill Park Lakes Reserve. Joshua Hall kicked three majors for the Blues, while Jason Gill and Jordan Brown starred. Alexander Aleksovski was best for the Lions and booted a goal.

Yarrambat had a 22-point away win over Greensborough. Down by 26 points at quarter time, Yarrambat had a better second quarter, kicking five goals. Scores were tied at three quarter time and the Bats managed to keep Greensborough scoreless in the final term to win. Konnar Adam, Zac Mccormack and Nicholas Green all played great games and shared six goals. Toby Brown was best for Greensborough.

Mernda had a comfortable win against Montmorency at Waterview Recreation Reserve. This came with the help of Thomas McMahon kicking four majors, along with Max Brown playing a well-rounded game. Kody Hunt performed best for Montmorency.

In the Under-16 Girls Blue, West Preston-Lakeside had a comfortable win over Research at Montmorency Park South Oval. Jaydah Hope kicked four majors for the victors and Abigail Bennett playing exceptionally well. Mia Robertson performed best for Research.

Montmorency had a 14-point win over South Morang at Mill Park Lakes Reserve to stay in top spot. Hannah Laffey proved pivotal in the win, playing a big game alongside Madeline Gallagher-Beanland. Paris Schmiedel performed best for South Morang.

Yarrambat had a three-goal win over Kilmore at Yarrambat War Memorial Park, after booting the first four majors. Teleah Smart kicked three goals, while Rebekah Brown played a very solid game. Eliza Woodley played exceptionally well for Kilmore.

In the Under-16 Girls Red, Boro Bolts won their eighth game with a comfortable triumph over Kilmore to cement first place. Olivia Thomson and Susie Patsouras shared five majors.

Eltham had a 29-point win over Hurstbridge at Susan Street Reserve. Alysha Rowe booted three majors, while Ailis Baddeley-Thompson was best on ground. Madison Prideaux was awarded best for Hurstbridge.

Northcote was too strong for Diamond Creek Women’s at Plenty Park Oval. Chloe Williams and Ellouise Bishop starred with three majors each. Brooke Klein never stopped trying for Diamond Creek.

Panton Hill remains second after a home win over Darebin Falcons. Elee Newman and Evelyn Apted kicked two majors each, while Rebekah Cullen-Hall excelled. India Bishop performed best for Darebin.
