Cox, Eyre to train with AFL clubs

Published on Wednesday, December 11, 2019

Montmorency’s Nikolas Cox and Kilmore’s Josh Eyre will both spend a week at an AFL club this summer.

Cox will train with Carlton, while Eyre will head to Essendon as part of the NAB AFL Academy program, which aims to prepare potential draft prospects for the next level.

Cox spent the 2019 season with the Northern Knights in the NAB League, while Eyre represented the Calder Cannons.

NAB AFL Academy program includes more than 50 players eligible for the 2020 draft.

The AFL selected the players based on the under-17 sides who played in the NAB AFL All Stars ‘Futures’ game on Grand Final day, plus others who missed the game through injury.

A number of other Next Generation Academy players were also included to train at clubs.

The training stints are often valuable for clubs later in the season as they make their calls at draft time.
