Roosters finalise coaching panel for 2021

West Preston-Lakeside has confirmed its senior coaching panel for the 2021 season.

Rob Maiorana will continue as coach of the club’s senior men’s football team for a fifth year, with the club shooting for a third-consecutive Division 1 premiership when action resumes in 2021.

Maiorana coached the Roosters to premiership success in both 2018 and 2019 – with the club becoming the first in a decade to win back-to-back NFNL senior men’s premierships.

He was named coach of the Division 1 Team of the Year in both campaigns.

Former Laurimar coach Justin Sherman has signed on as an assistant coach.

Sherman led the Power to finals appearances in consecutive seasons after joining the club following its inaugural season in the NFNL.

He guided the Power to a fourth-place finish in Heidelberg Golf Club Division 3 in his first season as coach in 2018, before making a preliminary final appearance last year.

Sherman played 138 AFL games for Brisbane and Western Bulldogs, and spent two seasons in the NFNL Division 1 competition while playing for Whittlesea.

Scott Pywell will continue as reserves coach, while Alex Stoikos will take over as under-19s coach.

Meanwhile, club great Paul Tilley has been appointed coach of West Preston-Lakeside’s senior women’s football team.

Tilley won the Division 2 best and fairest after returning from AFL stints with St Kilda and Fitzroy and has immense coaching experience, which includes coaching the Calder Cannons in the NAB League for two seasons.

He takes over the role from Niall McDonagh.
