Sockit2MND Round 2021

Published on Saturday, June 19, 2021

The Northern Football Netball League is proud to be supporting FightMND this weekend as part of the 2021 Sockit2MND Round.

As the largest independent funder of Motor Neurone Disease research in Australia, FightMND’s vision is a world without MND.

Since inception, FightMND has committed $48.45 million into MND research and $4.58 millon into the purchasing of vital care equipment for people currently living with MND.

About MND

Motor Neurone Disease, or MND, is a terminal neurological disease which attacks the motor neurons within the body until they waste away and die.

Motor neurons are required for muscle movement and without them, MND sufferers can no longer play their favourite sport, walk, talk, swallow and eventually breathe.

Currently, there is no effective treatment and no cure.

The aim of the Sockit2MND Round is to:

• Raise awareness of MND within your local sports club
• Raise much needed funds for vital MND research
• Show your support for those currently fighting MND or have lost a loved one to the disease

Why should you get involved?

• On average, two Australians are diagnosed with MND every day while another two will lose their fight
• The average life expectancy from diagnosis is just 27 months, so we need to keep up the fight
• There are no effective treatments and there is no cure

The Big Freeze 7 socks are a great accessory to the Big Freeze beanie, which has become a feature throughout the football community – most notably at the annual Collingwood vs Melbourne match on the Monday of the Queen’s Birthday weekend.

The NFNL thanks those clubs who have purchased the Sockit2MND socks and will wear them in this weekend’s matches. In doing so, you are helping to find effective treatments and a cure by taking part in the 2021 Sockit2MND Round.

It’s time to pull your socks up and help us fight MND.
