NFNL Football Umpire PD Program

Published on Thursday, November 11, 2021

Fifteen emerging NFNL field umpires are continuing to develop their craft over the off-season as part of the newly-developed Football Umpire Personal Development Program.

The program is providing the up-and-coming umpires with further knowledge and information they can implement into their umpiring for next season.

Sessions being conducted include preparing for the pre-season, diet and nutrition, mind and performance, in-season training and developing their decision-making and match-management skills.

Presenters conducting the sessions include AFL field umpires Mat Nichols and Eleni Glouftsis, along with VFL umpiring support staff.

The first session was conducted at La Trobe Sports Stadium on Wednesday October 20, with the second held on Wednesday November 10.

A further four sessions will be held through to March 2022.

NFNL Head of Umpiring Cameron Nash said the program displayed the league’s commitment to enhancing its umpiring program and would be supremely beneficial to the developing umpires, as well as NFNL member clubs.

“The NFNL is committed to continuing to significantly invest in umpiring and this program is a great reflection of this,” Nash said.

“This high-level program will provide the umpires with the necessary tools to assist them in their continued development on and off the field for season 2022.”
