The St Mary’s Football Netball Club has announced that senior men’s coach Fabian Carelli has resigned and will not return to the role in 2025.
Carelli’s departure comes after his side narrowly missed a place in the 2024 MC Labour Division 2 finals series, when they dropped to sixth by just 0.59% on the final day of the home and away campaign.
He spent seven season as senior coach of the Burra following his arrival in 2018.
In his first year at the club, Carelli took St Mary’s to premiership success in Division 3, winning the club’s first senior men’s flag.
His other coaching highlight with the Burra came last year, when he helped lead his side to their best ever finish in Division 2, taking them all the way to a preliminary final.
A club statement said:
It is with both gratitude and sadness that we announce Senior Men’s Head Coach Fab Carelli has decided to resign.
Fab joined us for the 2018 season, bringing with him a wealth of leadership and expertise from his already impressive coaching and playing career.
His impact was immediate and he guided us to a Premiership in his first season, propelling us from Division 3 to Division 2.
Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Fab kept the team engaged and motivated, culminating in our historic maiden Division 2 finals appearance in 2023.
Club President Mark Stanley expressed our thanks.
“Fab has been a cornerstone of our club’s growth and success over the past seven years. His passion, resilience, and leadership have left a lasting impact on everyone here at St Mary’s. We are deeply grateful for all he has done.”
We all extend a huge thank you to Fab for his efforts and contributions to the club. Though his role as Head Coach is coming to an end, we look forward to continuing to see him around the club and to his ongoing involvement with our community.
